Help... sorry can't give any pics. Noticed that my dark guinea pig had on her rear back where the fur parts in a little crest little black dots on the fur and her skin. I cud pick them off her hair but couldn't see them move. She seems happy enough so I was going to get some spot on drops and see... if it doesn't go or gets worse I will go to the vets. The other white one seems clear . However dud the drops on them both this morning and while I was disinfecting the hutch there was a tiny clear looking catapiller type bug with a tiny green head ! Could this be just a one off or linked to the things on my guinea pig?

What you have noticed is very likely the egg cases of hay/fur mites (chirodiscoides caviae). The mites themselves are invisible.

Please see a vet; my own prefers to treat with a full repeat course of stronghold as the most efficient way. You will need to treat all guinea pigs in contact to prevent them from spreading and coming back.

OK will do. Do you know what the caterpillar type thing was? Was that just an odd bug from the hay do you think?

If I take the treatment I have already dosed.. I assume that the vet will be able to advise what to do next so as not to overdose? I was going to see if these drops that I used a while go worked again. As when they were about 5mths old they had mites and the vet prescribed a course of ivermectin but after the 2nd dose my white one was still infected a little so she okd me to use this milder dose from makers beaphar bought from pets at home. It did the trick... but maybe not strong enough this time
