We knew Tipex since she was less than 5 minutes old. We saw her brother being born. She was the result of a rescue guinea who arrived at mine pregnant so we always assumed she must have been the result of a brother-sister or father-daughter pregnancy.
Yesterday night my husband found her dead. She was 3 months old.
To say I am gutted is an understatement. She was fine in the morning when my daughter fed her: happy to see Harriet and squeaking away for food. She was fine the the afternoon when my husband went into the guinea shed. She came to greet him in the hope of food.
Tipex was the friendliest guinea I have ever known. She loved to butt her head at us when getting cuddles and always came to greet me when I went into the shed. When she heard our front door open she squeaked (and set the other 3 off) because she was excited we may have food and be coming to see her. Last Saturday when I was cleaning the run, she sat on my foot as I worked. She loved strawberry and spinach. We may have only known her a short while, but she brought light into my life.
I cannot believe she is gone. How can we have lost her so young? She was acting totally normal. I cleaned the hutch today- no sign of urine infection or anything worrying. I am so confused. Could it have been something genetic?
Tipex, there will never be another guinea like you. Your life has left a paw print on my heart which will last forever. You will always be loved and always be missed.
