Harvey is trialling vitalga tabs for possible hyperthyroidism. Dosage 1/4 tab alternate days. Easier said than done! No groove lines in tabs to help breakage so did not manage to cut evenly. A lot of crumbling. Any help please? Somebody mentioned a pill cutter Any recommendations please? I feel crushing would lose a lot. Thank you x

We are treating a hyperthyroid piggy with Thyronorm, which is a liquid medication, so much easier than tablets.

I use this type of pill cutter, when I need to cut tablets. View attachment 78931
What is the difference between that and Vidalta please? What symptoms did piggy have and how has the response been? Harvey has been losing weight, eating, drinking, behaving normally. Nil to be seen by vet. Had GA for bloods, nil seen except just over upper limit for neutrophils (10 instead of 9).slight hook on back tooth rasped. Left stool sample this week, (no results yet) but just started on Vidalta to see if he responds. Thanks x

Sweetpea had rapid weight loss, a nodule was detected in her neck, extreme hyperactivity and constant body quiver. Bloods were sent to Pinmore Animal Laboratory Services to check T4 level. T4 was elevated - 65. She has been having 0.1ml of Thyronorm, twice daily since 15th November 2017 and initially weight stabilised and then began to slowly rise. Activity level normalised and body quiver diminished. However, we have started to see a weight decrease again, so she is booked in for a medication review on Monday afternoon.

I am not sure of the difference between Thyronorm and Vidalta. We opted for this as it is far easier to administer to a guinea pig and doesn't involve cutting tablets into tiny pieces. The active ingredient of Thyronorm is Thiamazole. Have just checked data sheet for Vidalta and that contains Carbimazole.
