So my single pig Belle who we acquired at the new year has settled in nicely and after what seems like endless searching in my area, it seems rescue piggies are like buses ... Either that or this one particular rescue is hogging all the pigs. Lol

We have booked in to go see some pigs tomorrow however, since my pig has been alone for a long time and there seems to be a hell of a lot of piggies to choose from I wondered whether anyone had any tips on picking the right piggy friend for an existing lonely piggy? Should we be bringing her along for piggy dating or will that be bad quarantine-wise. (We took her to the vets yesterday she's got a clean bill of health - not that we were expecting anything to the contrary). Only problem is since we only have one carry case which is deliberately snug for two Guineas for car travelling purposes (I read it's a lot safer in case of a collision. Less far to get flung) we wouldn't really be able to bring them back together unless the rescue happens to have a cardboard box.

Many thanks you knowledgable lot you.

I would take Belle as it is better to know then and there if it'll work or not and the rescue and at least tell you the signs that it is going well or not. It also means that Belle can choose her new buddy. Good luck:)

Please take Belle (if the rescue allows) and let her choose herself who she would like to live with; if Belle is healthy, then there is no problem. The rescue piggies she is meeting should be all quarantined and healthy when being put up for adoption in the rescues that we recommend; it is one of the criteria for making it onto our list.

Piggies have got their own mind and often choose very differently from what a loving owner would go for. Ideally, your piggies should be OK in one carrier on the journey home, as acceptance and some of the dominance should have happened at the rescue before you brind them back.

All the best!

I have rescue dated piggies of mine a number of times and have made very good experiences.

Not sure what rescue you are going to, but I really recommend Honeybunnies rescue in Leicester, they are fab & matched my oldie with her new friend really well :)

We did try honeybunnies we even agreed to take a certain pig from them but I guess they were busy and never let us know when we could come to visit.

They are very busy; all these rescues are run by volunteers in their free time. They need to feed, clean, medicate and take piggies to the vets, pick up and assess emergency arrivals, answer calls and emails etc.
If you don't get an answer back, just try again. You never know what has happened behind the scenes.

Yeah that's why I haven't held it against them. But the other half was impatient because he felt bad Belle was lonely for so long and the next couple of weekends we are busy.

I would take Belle and let her pick her new companion. They can travel home together in one carrier and that helps reinforce the bond between them. Have fun and good luck x
