Hello all,

One of my pigs (Bramble) is a Teddy with particularly dense fur, she's like a carpet! I've just given all my pigs a bath to clean them up a little before Winter and I've noticed just how much hair remains stuck in her fur after it has fallen out. It was just endless fur coming out in the bath and then afterwards I decided to pass a nit comb through her hair to remove more and their was quite a lot of dead skin flakes trapped in their as well.

She is healthy with good looking fur but a bit of dry skin - I don't think she has a health problem as such but I'm just wondering if anyone had any tips on how to help her as I don't want it to turn into a problem? I think I'm going to try regularly combing her with the nit comb to help keep it better ventilated but I can't think there's much else I can do? In terms of the dry skin I've bought some g.pig moisturising cream but it is impossible to get it through her fur down to her skin! Today I used a shampoo that claims to relieve itching so I hope that brings a little relief.

Thanks if you have any more tips :)

Maybe give her fur a little trim to help get the moisturiser down to her skin? Apparantly coconut oil is good for them too

I think that Teddies need plenty of brushing, compared to smooth hair piggies when you are stroking them you can't tell if their are any issues. But there are always plenty of hairs that come away because any moulting doesn't shed like other breeds. I have previously used the gorgeous guineas neem oil after shampooing too which is easy to use and I found it particularly good for Teddies type of hair.

Thanks both, I'll try something oily to sooth her skin then. I didn't realise she would need much grooming but she's going to be getting it now!

Teddies and Rex piggies often have scurfy skin. The reason there was lots of hair coming out after bath is they were stressed from bath, a stressed pig moults.

I got used to our Rex having grubby skin, but would check regularly with my fingers to make sure there was nothing else like fungal brewing, but she was always more scurfy than the other breeds we have had.

Have you got a picture? She sounds a bit more rex like to me, it's impossible to get to the skin of my rex girl Drom! Iggy's my teddy and he's not a thick coated so easier to groom and seems to have less problems in the dry skin area.

I get my piggy shampoo/ointments etc from Gorgeous Guineas, best stuff ever!

It wouldn't be a pig pic without poops! :lol!:

She's gorgeous! She does look like a rex to me, very much like my Andromeda!

Does her fur stand on end all fuzzy, very dense and sort of go the wrong way?

Rex's are prone to a bit of dry skin I think, I've never bathed Drom due to this and just regularly comb to increase skin health and natural oils with a wide tooth comb :)

I wouldn't say her fur goes the wrong way, but it is very dense and does stand on end. Looks very much like your Andromeda's fur (she's a cutie btw!). I will need to set up a grooming routine for little Bramble :)

Maybe she is a rex then! I do love me a rex :D

Thank you :) she is an absolute rascal! She derives tremendous pleasure from winding up the other piggies!

Okay are you sure you haven't got my Drommy? Sounds just like her! :))
