My Penny is a Swiss, she's a ball of frizzy fluff, and for the first couple of years of her life was always clean down below. Even though the hair around there is short in comparison to the rest of her it's recently getting a bit pooped up, a bit mattered, and bathing her doesn't appear to help (and she acts like a piggy possessed). Trimming her down there does help, but it's difficult and I'm constantly scared of nicking her because she wriggles.
Her poos are normal and solid, her health is absolutely fine, I can't see any reason except perhaps her hair has grown a little frizzier around their with age.

Has anyone got any tips on trimming a piggy's delicates please? I'm not doing a very good job of it!

When I had a long haired piggie that needed bum trims it was a two man job one holding one trimming, we used his favourite dandelion leaves for bribery. I found the hair was easier to trim if it was wet, I used a pair of baby nail sissors that had rounded ends.

Apparently there is a specific tool you can buy for this , I can't for the life of me remember in which tread though as I'm looking for one too !

That would be good @MJG , if you do find it please let me know :)
@piggieminder thanks, I'll purchase some baby scissors if I can't get hold of a specifically designed tool for the job x

@Critter ill tag you when I find it , it's like a blade I think , I deffo saw it on here !:mal: Such a dummy I should have remembered the page lol

Thank you :) And not a dummy at all, we all do it.... :)

Have you considered using a pair of hair clippers with a guard, @Critter? Means it's almost impossible to nick the sensitive area and you can trim it down as much as you want. I have a pair of Wahl "Peanut" clippers that are smaller than usual, and they do the job well.

I use a pair of dog clippers designed for doing ears and faces, means its much quieter than normal ones and they do a fantastic job! The one I bought on amazon came with charger, about 4 guards, scissors, nail clippers with a guard, a metal comb and little brush for the clippers. All for just over £20!
You can also get a dematting tool but ive never tried them, heard good things though!

We gave our long haired boys (3 months old) their first proper hair cut since we got them last week. Ours are also very wiggly when you pick them up. We used hair clippers on the highest guard, avoided nipples. Worked really well, quick and efficient. X

Argh

that's from back when I was looking at other options for Blitzen's butt matt. I eventually got it out with the scissors but it may be useful to you?

I use little battery operated clippers Mini Pet Trimmer CP-1178 | Free P&P on orders £29+ at zooplus!. I even manage to clip my long haired piggy one-handed. I hold her so her body is resting along my lower arm and palm with her little leggies dangling either side of my arm and her head towards my elbow. Then I tip her so that her bum is in the air (still supporting her full body weight on my arm/hand) and her bum is easily accessible to clip. I can also do the insides of her back legs this way. I also use the clippers to do her whole body but I tend to take a section of hair between my first and second fingers (like I'm then going to cut it with scissors) but I push the clippers down onto my finger. I know there's no way I can cut her this way and it doesn't do a bad job if I'm honest!

Hi @Eriathwen .... sorry just reading the posts as at the moment I try my hardest to trim my two long haired gps with scissors which
isn't over easy by yourself as they don't like it and I have learnt by someones post on here the best way is to hold with
one hand and gently lift the hair with the scissors with the other ..... so reading this I was wondering if this would work for them all
over ..... is there defo in your opinion no way you would knick them ? with only one hand free I cannot make sure their
legs stay still so when it comes to their bums it sounds very cruel and I apologise already but they get lifted up a little so their legs
are dangling and I have time for about 4 or 5 snips before they start wriggling ... enough to trim them down so this trimmer seems
maybe a better option for all over as its not the best haircut ever hap hazzardly with the scissors ...as you can imagine

Hey! If you use a guard on the clippers there should be no chance of catching the skin, should be super safe :)
I had to get clippers because Bramble is just.. ive never known a guinea pig be able to teleport, but as soon as you bring out scissors shes off as fast as she can go, no towel can hold her haha and usually id end up bitten and bleeding. The clippers have been a life saver.
I do it exactly as Mackers described, cradled in one arm, little bum in the air and its over before they even know whats happened (a food bribe helps though)
Since using the clippers shes even a lot more tolerant of being brushed so trimming needs doing a lot less frequently too.

Do you have the name of the one you bought. . There seems quite a few on amazon but I want a very quiet one and assurance that it cuts guinea pigs hair good... some ratings say some hair doesn't cut too well. Cradling them on your arm doesn't your arm get in the way for getting round the side's? I know I hold them just under the chin and front legs and I can't get to their front part..as soon as I let go they are off
