Hello everyone.

This may not be the place for it, but I feel I need to implore this to all U.S. members.

Include Cash Support to Citizens in the Coronavirus stimulus

This is a link to write to your state senators, representatives, and otherwise, about supporting U.B.I. in the Covid-19 Response Plan. All you do is fill in your information, click a few buttons, and an automated letter is sent. You can customize your letter if you want.

UBI stands for Universal Bank Income. It's a fixed income that all adults receive, regardless of age, status, wealth, or job. There are multiple proposals on the table right now to be included in the Covid-19 plan, and it is explained in the link in detail what these proposals are.

It is imperative that this information is spread and signal boosted, so that more letters can be made out to our representatives. We must make our voices heard. So many of us are losing our jobs or being put on temporary leave of absence right now. While this may not affect everyone, particularly our poor, young, elderly, and otherwise do not have the means to have enough money stockpiled for a crisis that denies them work. Schools have been closed indefinitely. Small businesses and restaurants are shutting down entirely. Now is not the time to be unable to afford to pay what little health insurance some of these people have, among other important essentials like utilities and food!

I strongly believe that we have to stand together as a society, and as a country, to combat Covid-19 and the effects it has on EVERYONE, not just those at risk vs. Those not at risk. Supporting U.B.I. during this pandemic is an important part of that I believe. Although we live in a capitalist society and that makes many of us loathe to give up what money we do have, I don't think that means we can't take care of our fellow Americans in times of great crisis.

Please, please, please, take the time to send your senators and representatives a letter. Spread the word however you can. I know we can make our voices heard!

Have you heard about a lady who got stuck with $35,000 medical bill for COVID-19?
She said no one at the hospital knew why she was sick with pneumonia like symptoms and later found she had COVID-19. Initially, the hospital didn’t know it was COVID-19, but kept on charging her the bills.
I felt sorry for her. Not only did she not have to money to pay for this but no one knew why she was sick

I've been a supporter of this for years purely on humanitarian grounds and considering the inevitable growth of automation. I believe the British government was considering a defacto UBI scheme as a response to our current situation a couple of months ago, but chose against it - but for all intents and purposes most people here are now backed by the government.
I've always been critical of healthcare in the US, when discussing this in technical circles, I think one reply that stands out is roughly "well, it may be perfectly fine for you in europe (I'm British, we've never felt particularly european), but you need to understand, if in we give the government control over healthcare they'll use it to control us".

Ah, they already control us despite many people here in the U.S thinking otherwise. I feel like we live in a dystopia and the rest of the world who has it figured out, keeps trying to tell us; but very few listen.

I was incredibly sick in December with Laryngitis and Pneumonia. I was hospitalized but all of the strep and flu tests came back negative. I had no voice, couldn't breathe, my throat hurt so bad but the doctors couldn't figure out what was wrong other than a bad virus–it could have been COVID-19. There was a spike of health complications and illnesses with exactly the same symptoms, at the end of December and beginning of January here in the U.S. I'm now paying over $1000 (with insurance) on 3 hours at the hospital. Also on our hospital bills they make up random charges too unless you ask for an itemized bill on the services done, because they want to hide their made-up prices (I.E medicine, tests, duration). And it's also true that we get charged for holding our babies after birth called "skin to skin contact" charge.
