Today I picked up a male pig from a freeads site.
He is 2 years olf and was living in a cage 2ft x 1ft >:(

(I have made him a large cavy cage style one now.)

Now, I intend to rehome him to a nice home with other piggies....would it be better to get him neutered so he can leave with girlie pigs, or leave him as he is to live with another male? Would he accept another male?

Thank you

Hi Max, there are many options for pairing up adult boars with other boars if you take a look at www.barmy4boars.co.uk under options there is a list of the different ways there. You can always pass this on to his new owner of give them my e-mail address- I would be happy to advise them.

Usually introducing a baby of 4-6 weeks is the easiest way to pair up an adult Male, but I have had sucess pairing uo adults with adults, though this takes time, patience and a knowledge of individual pig personalities.

If however you do decide you want him to be able to live with a sow and do get him neutered please ring the Cambridge Cavy trust first to find a good vet who you can trust to do the operation, any old cat and dog vet won't do. Some rescues neuter boars to make them easier to rehome... so you might want to contact a rescue near you and get a recommendation of a vet too. Again, there is info on Barmy4boars now on neutering you might want to look at to help you decide.

Hope you find him a nice home soon

Thank you for the info, your site is brilliant!

I have booked him in for Tuesday at my vets who are excellent with both rabbits and guinea pigs (they do hundreds of pig neuters a year.)

Hope the op goes well and thanks for the compliment on the site. If you could get a few pics of Max post op and wouldn't mind sharing how he gets on that would be a huge help to me for the site

good luck, I'm gettin harry neutered soon so he can move in with out girls let us know how it all goes
