I am now working form home and unlikely to be back in the office until Aug so I have rejigged things at home to make a proper work space. The down side to this is that the pigs c and c has shrunk from 5 x 2 to 4 x 2. The number of pigs has recently reduced fro 3 to 2 though so not too terrible.

My original plan when doing this was to put a second level in 2 x 2 but looking at the setup I'm not sure if the slight loss of floor space makes it a space gain and is it worth it? What do others think? Thanks :)

Piggies are ground roaming and so only the one level counts towards their minimum space. Do you have sows or boars? Could you extend by making an L shape?

A 2x4 is absolutely fine for two sows/one sow and one neutered boar. (Two boars need more room)

Adding a loft space is fine to do if you wish but it does not count as a gain in space and does slightly reduce their floor space that the ramp takes up. lofts do not increase their available floor space and are considered as bonus space only as piggies are ground roaming and need their space on one level to meet size requirements.

I have 2 sows, I am working in the same room as them as from today, its great. Think I will give the second level a miss if theres not much gain thanks guys

We have a 2x2 loft and the piggies love it. We fill it with hay (downstairs is fleece liners) and they are up and down the ramp all day, even though there is hay available on both levels.

A 2x4 is fine for sows. You can add the loft if you want to. Just bear in mind the ramp will take away a little of the ‘free running’ space as you can’t have it too steep.
