Having just won a recent court case against my previous employer I have a nice cheque en route :)

Pogle was initially on borrow to live with terry. Terry has since past (:() and I've decided pogle is staying. He's officially pignaped! Now *** he's on his own again I'm pondering getting him snipped while he's still young (1 1/2). He's pretty much free range and snifs around Emily a lot. She weeks for him and popcorning when he comes over. She's always been alone and refuses to be paired with a girlie, I've tried her with 7 girls now. I think they'll do good together.

I'm worrying about the risks to pogle though and I have no idea which vet to use . The vet I'm currently with isnt very good. I never see the same one and out of 7 only one seemed to know her stuff soni don't wanna risk him being operated on by a rubbish vet!

Can anyone recommend one in Liverpool? Is 1 1/2 pushing it risk wise?

Age wise your boy is OK, but I wouldn't neuter without a good, experienced vet; it is not worth the risk!

Alternatively, you could set up a boar dating trip for both Pogle and Emily at the Potteries Rescue in Stoke-on-Trent, which is your closest recommendable guinea pig rescue. They may be able to give you the name of their vet if you wish to neuter.
 
Birch Heath Vets in Tarporley are exotic vets. We usually see Vicki or Caroline ( Rocket was neutered there). On the subject of not getting the vet you want at your current vets, don't be afraid to ask for your favourite when you phone for an appointment.
There's always a risk with any op for little piggies so think long and hard about it first, as Wiebke has already said The Potteries Guinea Pig rescue have lots of piggie dating experience, we've been more than once to take our various piggies for dates and returned home with happy piggy pairs. :)
 
1 and ahalf is fine agewise. In fact i'd be happy to neuter a boar up to the age of about 3.5-4yrs. With a good vet, and good aftercare then you shouldnt need to worry too much. I'm sorry i dont live that way so i cant recommend a vet.

The one I've been looking at has been recommended by my boss! She's seeing her later with a cat and is going to ask some questions for me :)

I know this is a bit late but we recently had our two boars "done" so they could get some lady friends. They're both just over two years old and there were no issues, side effects etc. Our vet said that there is no health risk at that age as they are still fairly young.

Hope it goes well and Emily and Pogle are able to hit it off :)
 
I think they should be ok together they've been next door to each other for months. Emily weeks for him and he runs over :)

Last week he was running about the living room Emily's cage was open and she jumped out and they were both popcorning. I didn't Half feel guilty cos I had to grab her and put her back!

I they don't work out though I have two other pairs of girls I can try him with.
 
Putting your boys health first, it would definitely not be worth putting him threw with it with an inexperienced vet operating - just imagine the consequences.

However, you could try searching for a good vet a little more out of the region of Liverpool if no other good places pop up; perhaps even contact a few local, well known rescue places and ask who they use? Someone/where that is well known and trusted, and you know have had a lot of experience with pigs themselves - then you can almost guarantee their vet will be a good one.

The vet he's in with specialises in neuturing rabbits, guinea pigs, ferrets and also keeps rabbits/piggies herself. I've spoken to her on the phone about how many she's done successfully etc I'm more than happy with this vet operating on him.
 
Rebel is 10 months old and is going in to have his undercarriage rearranged! Hopefully there'll be no complications, I want him in with the girls as soon as we get the 6 week all clear. ;)
 
Well, I've had a good chat with my vet practice today, I spoke with the specialist "exotics" vet who deals with small furries only. As a result of our conversation, she put my mind well at ease and subsequently Rebel is booked in for 8.40am a week tomorrow.
 
He's going to be one happy pig in a few weeks time when he's out, keeping my fingers crossed it all goes well for you xx

The vet was confident hell be fine. I'm still guilt ridden though. Trying to keep busy to stop thinking about it! My flat couldn't be any cleaner if I tried!
 
Just rang the vets they said everything went fine an he's just groggy. Picking him up at 6. Thank fnfnfnf for that! Phew!
 
I am glad that he has made it safely through the op and wish him a good, problem free recovery!
 
Good news that your la'al man made it safely through his op. My turn next, well not me personally but you know what I mean. :))
 
Just been to pick him up ( went in with a pigeon and came out with a pig!) he's still a bit groggy but eating tomatoes in his cage. He's booked in for a check up Monday morning.

The Monday's check up is all included in the price and his meds £70 flat fee. They were super nice to ( even though the nurse was laughing at me over the pigeon)
 
Mine's costing me £43, which is a small price to pay for him living his life with other piggies. He's been on his own since Barty died last year. :(
 
The vets I normally use was £50. I wasn't happy with them doing it though!
 
I think I got totally overcharged from reading all this when I had one of mine done recently and I had a lot of complications. It was £98 for one consultation and the op, then with all the issues afterwards we got to over £200! I really hope your piggy recovers well, fingers crossed for him. x>>

I know! Put it this way, never again! :o I think it's opened my eyes to the endless problems you can encounter post neuter when the operation is perhaps performed by someone who hasn't had that much experience. In hindsight I would have been better looking around at vets more before going ahead with it.
