Hello!
As some of you might know I have a piggy on pregnancy watch. The trouble is that my girls are scratching like crazy, I have some ivermectin from a previous treatment of mites but I'm not sure if it's wise to treat the non-pregnant one now because I have a feeling she would catch them again off the pregnant one.

Should I wait and treat them after I'm 100% sure she's not preggers or had babies or go ahead and treat the non-pregnant one?

I've examined them and they have no sores or red scalp or any balding so I don't think it's a fungal infection. Should I buy baby wipes and wipe down the pregnant one and give the other lady a bath?

Sorry if the post is confusing haha! xx

are they in the middle of a course of treatment? If they had mites then usually they are treated fortnightly for a few weeks to eradicate any mites, in which case you need to consult the vet where you got the ivormec from and discuss safe treatments for pregnant guinea pigs.

All animals carry the mange mite bugs on their skin, it is when they are particularly stressed (in my crystals case) or their immune system is compromised that the mites become an issue to the pigs and need to be killed off their skin. I would not be bathing the potentially pregnant one and also keeping handling to an absolute minimum with risk of stressing her out even more.

If the itching is causing them to scratch excessively then I would seek veterinary advice, better to have them seen and appropriate advice and treatment given than second guessing from a vague symptom on a post in text.

if the non pregnant one is in the same cage as the pregnant pig it could still be a danger to the health of the unborn babies as she would be in such close contact to the treatment. i would seek advice really to be sure of what you need to do. it's really not worth risking the lives of the little ones
