I combed Red's hair today to make sure he had no mites, as he spent some time scratching. I used a nit comb. He has no mites or other bugs, so maybe it is the time of year or maybe he was just doing what guys do when they wake up. Speaking of which, his boar bits are developing.

I picked him up (had to catch him first) and as I did not put him in the little yellow basket I use when I clean his cage, he did not like it at all and squeeeeeeeeeeeeealed like a pig. He had no knots, tangles, or mats, but he still yipped when I combed him and I did NOT pull his hair or scrape his skin. He didn't wee on me while I had him. I put him on his back for a little while, he didn't fight it. He didn't like it, but he didn't fight it. I even was able to pull his lips back and check his incisors, and as far as I know they look normal. His hair is so soft and so fine, like a human baby's, but softer. He is getting some coarser hairs around his muzzle, though, and his nose is getting bigger. (see photo) UNUSUAL - he still had an umbilical scab that finally flaked off today when I rubbed his tummy.

lol.... sounds like he's being a very normal piggy. One of mine, Toffee, squeels like a piggy when I pick her up and I am not rough with her. Another one, Candy, has long hair and squeels when I brush it or even when I trim it.... but it needs done.
Little Red sounds just perfect :)

Pat - FYI - the most common form of piggie mites can't be seen with the naked eye. Many things can make them ichy - mites, lice, skin issues, etc. etc.. Though a little scratching is perfectly normal and him squealing like mad when you pick him up and comb him is also. Sounds like a normal guy to me. :-)

Awwwww Red is gorgeous! x) Percy-Roo is the same when it comes to brush time you'd think i was torturing him.....boys!
