toe nail trimming

just read all your advice about cutting nails thanks but the only problem is how long is long i have cut one nail that was twisted but only took the end off but not sure if all the others need doing they both will be 1 in may and have never had them cut if this is any help any advice would be great would rather try to do them ourselves as they probably trust us more than a vet
 
Any piccies would be good - I suspect if theyve never been trimmed for a year theyll be long ?
 
Here is a picture of 1 of their nails. With them being dark you cant see the blood vessel.

just took the tips off their nails probably not enough but now we know we are going to do them every 2 weeks as long as we fed them they didnt even know we where cutting the nails thanks again for all the advice
 
If you hold them against a bright light you should be able to see the quick and get an idea of how far you can cut back.

Personally I would get a vet to do them the first time and that should give you an idea of how to trim them properly.
 
Yes they are very long :o :)
Cause there black nails and your doing it the first time id only trim a tiny bit off each week or so O0
 
You can see in the piccie that they are starting to curl so they do need doing O0
