Hi, My Names molly and i have 2 guinea pigs (Male) (Brothers) who were born on 26th feb 09. And i was wondring when will i have to start doing these things? Or getting a vet to clip the toe nails. So Far there nails dont look long but I'm not really a expert on guinea pigs even though they are my fave animals and i love them there may be a age when they need it done?
Also barthing some people who i have talked to say they never barth there guinea pigs and its bad for them ? Anyway i dont no if i should give them a barth this comeing summer as there are in the garage now and i dont get them out in the winter.

Thank Yhuu byeeee

p.s Please help me because i really want to upload a pic of my piggies but i dont no how to ?

Toe nails... if they don't look to long they are probably fine... I'm going to pass :).

Bathing... 3 - 6 months... Gorgeous Guinea shampoos are great! (Do not bath if the piggies are less than 3 months)

Pictures... Do you have them uploaded to your computer?

If, so Register with www.photobucket.com

Go to homepage click upload select pictures... This will upload them.

Then Click image... on the left handside it will say img... click this it will copy automatically and paste it into a thread.

It sounds complicated but its easy really, if you need any help just shout :)! Not literally of course hehe!

They are definately old enough for a barth (:(|)) but if their nails don't need doing then it doesn't matter.

To put pics up, click reply and there is a little paperclip above the box you type in, that is the easiest way to upload.

I think it's whatever people prefer and plus I do find soggy piggies rather adorable :).

Just look...

Also it does get rid of some parasites I think... Thats a question for the Experts :)!

In my opinion, guinea pigs should not have baths to often as it can remove the natural oils from their coats which will keep them warm. Once every 4 months is probably the best times to bath them.

If it is really cold, do not bath them because they will get ill. I only bathe mine in the spring and summer as they really hate it. The worst thing they ever did was climb out of the water bowl with shampoo all over them and climb into the hay box! When you do it, you will need to have a firm grip on them!:)

amazing :) cutttttttttttttttttteeeeeeeeee :p

I agree don't bath in the winter... I did bath mine but they are indoor piggies and please make sure they are completely dry before putting them back in there cage! :)....

I had my 3 all cosy next to the radiator for hours to dry them :)!

I only give baths if my shorthairs are really dirty or messy, about twice a year on average. Some boys need regular bum baths.

Longhaired guinea pigs profit from regular baths, as they pick up more dirt, and special shampoos help keeping their hair from tagling up so much.

Guinea pig toe nails need clipping from about 10-12 months onwards when they are starting to grow. They grow quickest in their second year of life and from then on slow down a bit. Here are tips on how to go about:

If you are very squeamish, you can ask your vet to show you how to do it for the first time. If your guinea pigs are very skittish it may help if you have a calm person to hold them.

Mine are still waiting for their first barth. Thought I'd better get the trauma of Xmas travels out the way first :(|)

:))

mine have only had a couple of baths... chesney loved it... maisie wasn't so sure! she tried to jump out of the bowl! rolleyes

chesney loved having the hairdryer on him... he actually lay fully stretched and purred! :)) maisie hated the hairdryer! :))

they probably need a bath again by now but it is far too cold. our house isn't exactly the warmest... even with the heating on... so it will be spring time baths for them! :)

mine have had 3 baths since i got them in september but they are white piggies who get dirty bums so do need regular cleaning.they take ages to dry off though

Guys please look at my new post on guinea pig chat and if yhuu can all try and do it byeeee guinea pig friends :)

bathing piggies and nail cutting

Hi there

We bath our boys every time they go their holibags to granny & papas which is usually 2-3 times a year. They weren't keen on it to start with but think they kinda think now that they're not getting out of it (though they boht have tried to do an evil knievel out of the bath before and almost succeeded). Ours are indoor pampered piggies who have their cage next to a radiator hence why my husband and I are always cold lol.

Tried the hairdryer method once not keen on that at all so dry them naturally with a warmed towel and keep them snug until they are dry enough to go bback into their house.

Nail clipping is a joint effort between husband and I. I hold the piggy and bribe them with food while he clips away though they only get their nails clipped when they need it not all that often. Hope this helps.
