BrownPig has always had long toenails, and i have now bought some nail clippers to try and tame them back into a shorter shape. We have already been t the vets twice to have them trimmed in 6 months.
Last night i noticed he has a strange lump on one of his front toes. To describe it, imagine that he has trodden in a soggy lentil, which has moulded around his toe and nail and then dried. Part of it is spread over the fleshy pad underneath his toe, and the rest is spread to either side of the toe and over the nail.
Apart from it looking like something he has trodden in, i think it is part of his nail which has started growing oddly. I have tried to pull it off (thinking it was a lentil) and he squeaked and pulled away, and he is limping.
Should i persevere with trying to remove it, or clip the 'extra bits' off, or leave it and hope it goes away?
Here is a very crappy photo of it:
You can just about see where it overhangs the nail on the second toe. He isnt the cuddliest pig around - prefers to be running around the floor, but apart from pulling away, he hasnt tried to bite or scratch or anything bad.
I dont think it is bad enough for a vet visit yet (and i will be really embarrassed if it does turn out to be some kind of lentil!) but i am away for 6 weeks from the end of April, and i hate for there to be a problem when i am not there.
