I came home from work on Thursday to find Toffee pig struggling to breathe. I rushed him to the vets, who put him on oxygen and gave him a steroid injection. They could not seem to be able to fine a reason for the problem, but there was no improvement, it was obvious he was not going to survive.

We decided it was kindest for him to be PTS.

Now, I had a few twitches about the rescue I got my three from. On reflection, as they did not take my details, and they did not show me around, they just brought the piggies in for me. I could have been anyone..... And the fact they gave 3 boars as bonded. Two of which were not mature.

I clearly was naive. All my years of keeping girl piggies and never having a problem, I had been clearly blessed!

The local guinea pig grape vine has had a few comments to make regarding the rescue too.....

I was not sure how long toffee and treacle had been there, treacle seems fine. Fudge being older obviously stood a better chance, but had wounds on him, which have all healed nicely now, but I was bathing when I first got him.

The sad thing is you can never tell about some Rescues or ppl but atleast they found loving homes with you and now Toffee gets to Popcorn free on Rainbow Bridge never to be hurt again, atleast he got to be loved and treasured by you which is the most important thing in the end.

Thank you. He never got chance to popcorn on earth. He was the quieter of the three, he gots lots of attention.

So sorry to read this, and sorry for your loss. Huge hugs x

RIP Toffee

Thank you everyone. Toffee did leave an impression on me, as he was quiet. I took this as being a good thing, but it was obviously not - he may have been ailing. But, piggies do not show there is a problem, they cannot, being pray, they cannot show weakness, this is why they seem to demise so quickly.

RIP little one ! dose our rescue locator have all the genuine ones and maybe in future there could be an option to rate them ?

Ironically it was another rescue centre that confirmed my fears about the one I got Toffee from.

So sorry for your loss. Hope your other piggies are ok. Popcorn free Toffee x

I am very sorry for your loss. You did what you could for Toffee.

Sadly anybody can call themselves a rescue or a breeder, and there is no licence or control of standards, hence why we have started our rescue locator of rescues we can guarantee are safe to use.

Yes, so I discovered to my cost. Unfortunately, a little like reading the instructions after trying to put the item together.....I found this forum . The other rescue I spoke to said at least I saved two. I had never used a rescue before, my other piggies were from breeders, pet shops or unwanted pets.

Toffee has found happiness and good care because of you, so it was not a fail.
