Toilet training

Hi there,

I was wondering if its possible to toilet train your guinea pigs? I have had mine now for 3 weeks and have noticed that they seem to do all their pee's and poo's in the same 2 places. I noticed in pet shop the other day some small corner plastic trays that said small pets toilets on them, are these for guinea pigs and if so how do you go about it, also would you put something down inside the tray like you do cat litter etc?

I think those trays are mostly for rabbits
Its very rare to have a litter trained guinea but it can happen
If you want to try then line the tray with newspaper and hay.
Then put a few recent droppings and a bit of wet straw in it to tell them where to go
Even if you do manage to litter train them they may soil other areas too
I'm sure theres someone on here that has trained their piggies

My rabbit is. He's free range in the garden during the day and only goes in one place, so we are going to put a litter tray down tomorrow.
I think it depends on the pig. If s/he goes in one place then it could be possible Unlike mine ;D

Fugly is very good when I let him out for floor time in the evening he jumps back into cage for toilet, have never trained him he has just always done it, clever piggy :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

When I cuddle him he will bite the towel to let me know he needs to go back to his cage ;D ;D

My girls go everywhere in their hutch : but my boys are toilet trained - they use one of two areas and alternate with every hutch cleaning.

If one of the boys needs to go during cuddle time he tells me he wants to be carried back by trying to jump into my arms :smitten: It's taken me months to figure out what he meant by throwing himself at my chest, I'm not so easily trainable 98)
