I am going to start this thread with how I feel malletheadmalletheadmallethead

The boys used to pee right at the bottom of the ramp in their old hutch. When I moved them into their newer, bigger one I put a litter tray in the corner opposite the bottom of the ramp. They do use this litter tray - not all the time but enough to make it worth while being there. Anyway, there is still plenty of space between the litter tray and the bottom of the ramp so what do the boys do? Continue to pee at the bottom of the ramp! mallethead

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can encourage them to stop? I stopped putting fitch at the bottom of the ramp to see if that would help but the newspaper ended up really soggy so had to put the fitch back to soak it up. The litter tray is a corner one without a cover. Would they be more likely to go in there if it was covered?

I'm afraid I can't help you with any advice but just wanted to say you're not alone in this problem! My boys have chosen the bottom of their ramp as their peeing area - unfortunately for me there's not enough space to put in a litter tray and it's the most awkward corner to reach in to clean out, I'm going to try fashion a slot in corner out of spare correx so I can at least slide it out to make it easier!

Good luck finding a solution, they can be quite contrary little beings, can't they?!

Bottom of the ramp and cage entrance are important marking places - it's a "we are here and in business" address for piggies.
You can't change that; put your toilet corners or some where the piggies create theirs, or reinforce the underlay.

Ahhhh, thanks Wiebke. I can accept it now that I know there is a reason to it. If they are happy then I am happy!
