Hi everyone,
I have 2 GP's and they have fresh water everyday but never seem to drink anything. They have lettuce and carrots & cabbage daily but they also seem to wee a lot and am not sure where it is all coming from! I cleaned them out 2 days ago and they have a really wet patch in the corner of the cage already. They also seem to poo a lot, is this normal or am I perhaps giving them too much fresh veg?
Also, I've seen little 'litter trays' for guinea pigs and wondered if anyone has these and do they use them. Would it be worth investing in one for them so they aren't sitting in wee & poo too much. I clean as much out every day as possible but it seems about 10 mins after I've cleaned the corner out they are back again to fill it up.
Thanks, Sam 6)

Oh they are poop machines, thats all the tend to do sometimes. The water is coming from the veggie intake. I wouldn't reduce it. I would wet the veggies so they just get some water that way.

Litter trays can sometimes work, depends on the pigs really.

:)

Hi and welcome to the forum!

Guinea Pigs often get alot of the water they need from the fresh fruit and vegetables so some can often not drink very much.
Yes guinea pigs toilet all day all the time!! Litter trays are pot luck. Some guinea pigs will use them and some won't. It just depends on the guinea pigs really, I have tried with my piggies but they did not use them!

hope this helps!
Jon!

Thanks for your replies, I may just give the litter tray a try and if it doesn't work then it doesn't matter, just wanted to make it more comfortable for them.

Just ditto to above posts mine can never wait to get into a freshly cleaned hutch and soil it gleefully, and mine have no interest in a litter tray but there are people on here whose pigs use them.

Mine never drink, although of course they always have filled, fresh water bottles. They do however have a lot of veg, the favourite being cucumber, and my vet said they would be getting sufficient from that. But mine certainly wee and poo a lot, and I clean their cages out fully on alternate days, but in between times I just take out the excessively soiled stuff and replace it. I suspect mine wouldn't be interested in a litter tray, although I know some people have succeeded. Good luck.
