Tom's had a lump on his side ever since we got him, his previous owner mentioned it and there initially appeared to be no cause for concern, however just before we went away we thought it had grown and measured it.

Weighed them both just now and Tom's lost 150g in just over a month so I've an awful feeling the lump is changing, quite possibly the dreaded C word

He's not in any discomfort, eating like a horse so I'll be phoning the vets Monday morning

My old boar had the c word. The first sign he was going a bit downhill was muscle mass loss. Dont mean to scare you, he could be fine. My boar had 2 hard moving lumps under his chin, being a scruffy haired pig i didnt notice until they were conker sized

Nah your not scaring me don't worry about that! We'll see what the vets say on Monday, then take it from there

Best get him checked out. I'm tagging @pig in the city who will know the best vets in the South Yorkshire area.

Always handy to get a recommendation via word of mouth, if I remember rightly when we registered the gang at the vets I plan to ring, they said they have a few guinea pigs on their books so hopefully we have a vet who knows what they are doing..........

If they dont, don't pay up. You wouldnt pay a carpenter to do your plumbing

Thats a very good point and I must hold a record somewhere for the number of vets my animals have been registered at as I'm quite picky!

Sending lots of healing vibes for Tom, I hope the lump is nothing nasty and you can figure out why he is loosing weight! xx

Thanks all

He's been quite quiet today still eating like a horse and drinking. Will be phoning the vets when they open in the morning

Update:

Sadly Tom was put to sleep this morning. Mini seems unconcerned that he is now on his own (If he could speak I think it would be "See you Tom, now more food for me") but we will be looking to get him a companion very soon.

Thank you all

I had half an idea this was coming to be honest, sometimes you just have a feeling don't you?

Oh no ! I'm so sorry to hear this :( Popcorn free Tom .

Thank you all. Mini still seems unconcerned that he is on his own (Only temporarily) he's eating normally and doesn't seem to be showing any form of bereaved or greaving behavior thankfully.

Hubby went to get some bread rolls out of the pantry just now for lunch, I said look behind you and there was Mini up on the bars nosying!

So sorry for your loss.
Even when we know it's coming it's still hard.
You gave Tom a great life and its is the last gift of love we can give.
Look after yourself as you grieve
