hi. when i got my guinea pig the store guy told me that they cant eat oranges and tomatoes but i see others feeding their gps that. so is it true or not?

thankss :]

I remember popping into a pet shop once and I overheard a conversation which involved the keeper telling his customer that raw potato is good for guineas. Needless to say I corrected him!

I've always fed my pigs tomato - they adore it. I know that some guineas are not keen on oranges but mine love them! They only get them in small doses though.

Yep they can eat them. Cherry tomatoes are best as they can have 1 a day or every other day! Be careful with oranges they can cause sores on the mouth because of the acidity. Once a week or fortnight should be ok. I've never tried oranges! rolleyes

Oranges are funny things - piggies either love them or hate them :))
Yes, only feed them on the odd occasion, but your piggies will either avoid them altogether - or gobble them up!: Oh and be careful to take the pips out (|)

i always take out the green bits and middles of tomatoes to get rid of the acid parts and still only feed for odd treat every couple of weeks not sure they actually are interested in them anyway!

One thing you'll learn quite quickly is not to listen to the pet store guy. :) Always get a second opinion, as you have done. Most (though not all) don't know the ins and outs of each individual species' care.

Tomatoes are fine daily - though limit them to every other day if you leave the acidic goo and seeds in. Oranges are best limited to once a week or occasional treats, as the sugar content is as much something to watch as the acidity.

Theyre fine, but sometimes they can be a bit acidic and could leave sores around the mouth:)
