Piglet has lived alongside Hector and Matilda for a week and has settled in really well. Day one they all started wheeking for breakfast and she came out to have a look, day two she joined in, day three she started the wheeking off and has done ever since. She has a really distinctive wheek and a loud one at that! Last night she wheeked every time I moved or spoke so I picked her up for a cuddle and she was fine after that, I think she's a little attention seeker but she's a snuggly one so I don't mind at all I love hearing her 'voice'.

There wasn't a lot of interaction for the first few days so I moved things around so they mirrored each other i.e. food bowls and water bottles opposite, big pile of hay so they had to come near each other. Hector's wiggled his bum once or twice at her, Matilda's sniffed at her and they've all stolen hay from each other's side. Other than that it's been very calm, they've not really bothered with each other.

I've set up a new pen the otherside of the lounge ready for the morning when I'm going to introduce them and can keep an eye on them as I'm in all day Sunday and Monday.

Fingers crossed! I've really fallen for her so this bonding has got to work or she can't stay :0

I've not had a good experience today with bonding...it failed 8...
Hope you have better luck - could you not keep things as they are rather than let Piglet go :(

well i hope it goes well, i tried introducing another female to mine and at start is was scary now they are fine with each other and i have my trio so its not impossible * can do it i know * can, heh i used this forum for bonding tips and they worked, man i love this forum

I've just read your thread Guinea Pig Slave. What a shame it hasn't worked. It's awful isn't it? Sadly Hector is my only neutered male so the only pair she can join and the extra pen for Piglet means I can hardly walk round the room and you can't get to the arm chair! An extra 2 by 3 in my tiny house makes a big difference!
She has a place at a rescue with a big herd of perminant residents if it doesn't work out and her owner is happy for her to move in there but in the ideal world she'd live here so she can still see her.

I've bonded boars and re bonded Hector and Matilda after they fell out when he was poorly so I've got an idea of what to expect but it doesn't make me any less nervous.
Hector's getting more and more interested in her, he's biting the bars at her tonight so is obviously a little frustrated he can't see her. It only last a few seconds so I think it's more the 'I can't see you' rather than mad boarlyness! (if that's such a word!)

Me and Patrick will send some luck your way, after today anything is possible!

Remember neutral ground and lots of yummy treats, keep someone to distract them if tensions become raised!

Crosses finger.. Patrick, are your paw's crossed?

Patrick; Yes, even crossed my back legs!

How about Pebbles, and the other's?

All Paws firmly crossed, Good Luck keep us updated! We'll be awaiting the good news!

x

It's so funny watching them. She's sat with her bum right up against the joining grids and Hector had a sniff, a little bum wiggle, a popcorn then carried on eating his dried food. I think he likes her :))

Bonding has commenced!
They've all had a bath this morning and are now tucking into lunch together. So far they've been together for 30 minutes, I don't know if it's just they are so busy stuffing their faces but so far they've not been at all bothered with each other. Piglet pinched a piece of cucumber Hector was eating he did a mini rumble she just carried on eating and that was that, no more than he'd do to Matilda if she did that to him.
I don't want to count my chickens before they've hatched but so far all is calm. We'll see what happens once all the veggies have gone, I've cut it up small and scattered it mixing it in with the piles of hay so they're having to look for it which is keeping them distracted.

Well there was a scuffle about an hour in. A nose off between Hector and Piglet and poor Matilda got in the way and started shreeking. I chucked a pile of hay at them and it did the trick! Matilda was still a little distressed so I gave her some fuss and she calmed down. They've had a good sleep so I'm hoping it was just someone getting over tired. They've all woken up and there's a little bit of teeth chattering starting up again so I think it's time for round 2!

It sounds very much like initial acceptance has happened (it usually does within the first 15-30 minutes; simple greeting is enough) and they are now already well into the dominance sort out.

Generally, things shouldn't get any worse. It is more a matter of throwing pig's weight around to see how high in the hierarchy one can climb and also to draw the limits at how willing/unwilling a wife one wants to be in the new group. Just let them work it out between themselves.

Just popped by to see how things are going. Fingers crossed they settle down, sounds like you've made a good start.:)

Well round 2 came to nothing.
There was a moment when I put their bowls of dried food in, typically they all wanted to eat from the same bowl even though there was three and Matilda got pecked on the ear by Piglet. I moved the bowls round and they decided it was easier to have a bowl each.
It's really interesting to see who backs down each time. To start with Hector kept backing down but last time Piglet did so I'm not so sure who's going to end up as boss although it's clearly not Matilda!
7 hours in and all pigs are asleep again :(|)

I'm wondering when I should move them into their house, tomorrow morning?
or should they have longer to bond where they are before moving them?

WHEEEEEEEEEEK this is great news love! Whee all hope they have many happy popcorning and noming years ahead of them all x)x)x)x)x)

I'm sure Wiebke will be able to advise on your question...... pop her a little PM so she comes and looks on your thread again -c

Maybe leave them a little longer, not sure - Wiebke is our expert on these issues :)
We had Amelia and Sally on our sofa periodically and they were ok together but when we tried them in the pen, it all went wrong 8...
Sounds like you have done the deed here hun, well done and hope harmony continues with your piggies x)

All looking good this morning, Piglet seems to have settled and will let Matilda sniff her which she wasn't happy about yesterday. Matilda was trying so hard to be friends yesterday but Piglet wasn't ready to get that close.
All ate breakfast happily together apart from the odd rumble when someone ate something the other one wanted (which is normal) so it's looking very hopeful.
I've PM'd Wiebke as Glynis suggested to see when she recommends moving them back to their home.
It keeps throwing me, I've made up their pen (just minus the hay) and I keep glancing over and panicing cause I can't see anyone in there! Doh! mallethead

Right Wiebke says they're good to move so we're off! It will be nice to have some of my lounge floor back again.

I don't know what happen over night but Piglet is now letting Hector mount her and not bothering at all! She's obviously decided to be a good wife. :(|)

Yay, there we have it happy ever after..

The end :)).

Or should I say... It's only the beginning, I bet your friend is also delighted!
