Hello,
Just under a month ago my guinea pig broke his bottom tooth. I took him to the vet as I felt his top teeth were too long. I felt the other bottom tooth was damaged too but the vet said it was just the one and that he had done some damage to the root. She said his top teeth did look quite long but said that piggies teeth are quite long anyway so not to worry. Anyway his bottom teeth were doing well and growing up again. But this morning when I checked this mouth he has broken them both again. I don't know how he's doing this or what to do. I think I will take him to the specialist as soon as I can but they aren't seeing new patients due to Corona at the moment. Any advice would be appreciated. Many thanks.

I am no expert but I have had my Granville to the vet twice during the lockdown ( about his teeth). I had arranged the appointments over the phone and I was advised about the procedure to follow once I was in the car park. I had to leave Granville in his pet carrier near the practice door and he was taken inside for examination.
If you are worried about your guinea pig please contact your vet and ask if they have procedures during lockdown as they are classed as key workers. I do hope your guinea pig is OK I know how worrying it is for you.

Thanks val of York. Yes I had to follow similar procedures when I took him to the vet the first time he broke his tooth. My vets are wonderful but aren't piggy specialists but I have an extremely good specialist about 20miles away who I have used previously but unfortunately they can't see this piggy as he isn't registered with them and while coronavirus is around they arent taking new patients. I'm monitoring his weight daily and have critical care food if he needs it. Just frustrating and so strange that it's happened again.

Granville broke his lower incisor. I know I hadn't dropped him but I had noticed he had been dragging his metal hay racks of the side of his indoor run. He had never done this before and he is 5 yrs old. So I have taken both his hay racks off. When I took him to the vet he said the tooth would grow back but I should keep an eye on it. The vet also advised me to give Granville to extra vitamin c to supplement his diet as being an indoor pig he may need extra vitamin C to help with his teeth. Let's hope this lockdown ends soon for veterinary treatment it will make life so much easier.
