Tooth not growing back

Hi,
Last Sunday night (07/06) I noticed that my 5 year old boy Machu had broken one of his top incisors off. I took him to vets on Monday and he is now on antibiotics as it was infected apparently. His bottom ones were filed down at this appointment too (he has regular tooth trims anyway). Since then it’s been a bit of a nightmare as he has been struggling to eat but he seems a bit better on that front now.

I expected the tooth to be showing some signs of regrowth by now but to my eyes I can’t see anything. Is this normal in your experience? I have never had a piggy break a tooth before so I’m not sure what to expect.

He’s going back to the vets a week on Monday for a recheck to see how it’s all progressing.

Photo attached is before his first vets appointment. I can’t see anything visible progress from then though.

Thank you. His eating is getting better so no longer needing round the clock syringe feeding thank goodness as it’s been sleepless nights territory!

It can take a while for teeth to grow out; it also depends on whether the tooth is broken again further down. The stump is still visible. Is it sitting firmly?

I would however check whether growing incisor may need trimming as it looks a bit long to me and somewhat inwards growing? It could however just be the angle.

Please take a deep breath. It looks like my guess that the tooth was broken further up was right (it had that discoloured look of a broken piece of tooth) and that the broken bit has now come out.
It is just going to take a few weeks more for the tooth to grow fully back but it is going to grow back. The sheer fact that it has now come out is proof that the tooth itself is still growing.

Incisors are incredibly long, thin and bent teeth so any even moderate force of the front of their face can make them snap; they are over an inch long. Because they are so long, the snap can also easily happen in more than one place and below the gum line. But as long as the root is not affected, the tooth is going to grow back.

You just have to be patient for longer and see a vet if the other tooth is no longer abrading against the bottom incisors or if he is losing weight because the incisor pickup/cut down is no longer working properly. Usually a single tooth will look longer than normal it can hold its own against the two opposite teeth.
