My piggies must be very difficult when it comes to toys, because they never play with them. I've tried various types of toys like twig balls, wooden toys (both floor and wall), and stuffed animals. They will only sniff at them and walk away. Are there any other toys I could try? I don't want them being bored. Or do guinea pigs just like to play with their hay? :P

Paper bags and cardboard boxes stuffed with hay are a hit here too. Fleece tunnels are great fun to popcorn in. One of my boars loves a sheet of newspaper rolled into a ball, he chases it round for a bit then shreds it, drags it into his bed and goes to sleep. If I don't give him his paper he digs up his fleece liner and pulls out the paper I line the cage with. None of mine have ever bothered with the commercial toys.

I'll try that I'm always trying to think of new things to keep my lot stimulated.

Try toilet paper rolls one of mine likes to put one end in his mouth and wave it up and down. You could also try tissue paper.

Hi. I’m glad I saw this as I am in the same position my GP’s. They play with nothing other than their 3 way tunnel (which they love) and they enjoy running in an out of their wooden house inside their cage, it has 3 entrances and a ramp to an upper floor too. I’ve got many toys but I’ve taken them all out as they take up space and they don’t even use them. They do have chew mats and they seem to enjoy picking at it, I’ve got a large one so it lasts longer and I’ve got a small one at the side of my cage so they can really work for it. They’re good for hiding food inbetween so they can really spend time with it and enjoy it I thought tissue or the toilet roll holder was bad for them but I’ll deffo try the latter and see how they go. I’ve come to realise that my GP’s love things they can run in and out of and they do this almost every day and seem to love it.

You can't go wrong with a piece of newspaper. I had one lady who loved to rip it up and you would often hear her shred it into strips. But every pig I've had likes to hide under it and shove it around. Walking on newspaper also seems to make pigs popcorn. Maybe its the crinkling sound?

I got this a few months ago from Pets at Home. Its actually quite fun to watch them try and work out how the levels work but it does require supervision. The knobs are also good to hit your friends with as our Daisy discovered.

Mine like a four way tunnel made from hay (straw?) I got from Pets at Home a photo would be useless as they destroyed it though 😂
Mine ate theirs too, piggy daddy called it "the wondrous cross" because it was so popular and he was rehearsing a song called that for choir... they ate the 4 arms off then used the centre as a communal toilet for 5 :) they loved it but it didnt last long!

Can you describe how exactly you lay down the newspaper? Pieces, flat, scrunched etc...

I have been trying everything to get a lonely pig inspired and active (she’s been a little poorly and won’t tolerate another piggy friend sadly) but thanks to this thread I put in a rolled up piece of newspaper in her cage tonight and she loves it! Rolling it about, shredding it...eating it :hb::doh: but she’s happy so I am! Thanks guys..genius as always...often it’s th little things that make the biggest difference!

I tried putting hay in a toilet paper roll for Cocoa and she seems to like it! She enjoyed taking all the hay out and sticking her nose in it. I think I will try squishing some tissue paper into a ball. I never realized how simple guinea pig toys could be :D
