I hope I'm posting this in the right place. if not ...throughly apologise. I was wondering ..what sort of toys do piggies like..and what is safe for them. I am very hesitant to ask a pet store person, or get anything from the store without running it by all of you...after the store selling me food that has stuff in it , they arent suppose to have..I'm a little leary.

I know my rabbit when I was a child enjoyed a simple ball made out of old socks and some twine wrapped around it. But ...these are piggys not rabbits. so....??

My piggies love cardboard tubes (toilet paper tubes/wrapping paper/kitchen towel) stuffed with hay. Sometimes I hide the veggies in there too. I also hang homemade veggie kebabs from the sides of the cage.

My pigs currently have a large cardboard 'chube', a medium purple super pet igloo, a homemade bridge/hut, large fiddlesticks wooden flexible log bridge, cardboard hay chews, a wooden rolly chew ball and a homemade veggie kebab.

Personally, I think that sometimes homemade is best. My pigs go mad for cardboard tubes with hay!
Hope this helped.

Very much helped. THANK YOU. is there anyway you can show me a pic of your hommade veggie kebab. I'm very interested in what it looks like, and the recipie if you will. ...for lack of a better word..the pet store prices are CRAZY..and if I can make something at home they like..I'm soooo gonna go for that. They do have a hidey house, and the stupid ramp that came with thier cage was so slippery they couldnt go up it..so I took it out...cut a section off of a wicker basket..and it serves as thier ramp. smores enjoys running up and down it..and sometimes even popcorns off of it. (too funny to watch really). But I didnt get them anything else because A) ran out of money. and B) wasnt sure whats safe. Is it ok if they chew and eat cardbord? I guess I'm just overly cautious

side note..I'm having popcorning and zoomies today..I guess I have "happy" piggies. lol. stupid i know..but makes me feel as if I'm doing something right.

They absolutely can and LOVE to chew cardboard. Putting an empty box into their cage can act a a hidey for them that they can move around (if they like redecorating as much as my piggies do) and munch on. It's a good way to keep their teeth worn down as well! Most of the toys and such in pet stores are overpriced, unnecessary and a lot of the times harmful to guineas. The toilet paper roll/hay stuffed toy is another good one too! I think the main thing is to change things up for them once every couple of days. It will keep them busy and happy! You are doing things right not to worry! A popcorning piggie is certainly a happy piggie!

Thank you so much. I will definatly be giving them a paper towl tube..RIGHT now. LOL...just used the last paper towel..so...they are in luck. Good to know paper wont hurt them. i was very worried when smores nibbled some of his papertowel in his bring home cage......

whoo hoo...(side note...he has popcorned so much today..Its a wonder he hasnt hurt himself. )

Isn't it just the cutest thing ever?! x)

lol..yes it is. and now him and choco are taking turns hopping over the tuby...and then they were playing tug of war with it...choco won that round. now they are happly chewing it IN HALF..I guess so they wont have to share.
Too funny. Planning on making the bedding change this weekend after I hit biglots for some cheap towels. I also have a old fleece blankie that my dog no longer wants to use. Its pink and flowerdy...with them being boys..that seems sily. But its not like THEY will care or know. lol.

We have a collection of tried and tested ideas in the toy thread in our always useful reference section. the best toys are the cheapest; piggies can develop quite a destructive energy, so cardboard, paper bags (any handles cut through, please; can be ordered from ebay) or old rags or tea towels come in ever so handy!

What lovely ideas!

I just made my boars a few little wrapped up packages.

Kitchen towel with some cut up cucumber inside along with tomato and hay. The youngest loved digging through it and the elder pair were a bit confused but Gilbert figured it out, making Ludwig realise how to get it too.

They are having fun. Thank you for the ideas. :)

Paper bags are brilliant as well (primark bags are popular with my girls) stuffed with hay. Commercial wise wooden toys are normally best my girls favorites are fiddle sticks, wooden balls with hay and dandelions in and at the mo they have a sizle veggie patch which they love! I like to try and be creative tying up boxes and hiding food.

Scattering their veggies is also popular so they have to forage around for them! Lots and lots of hay (not just in a rack) is popular too as they can dig and forage in it!

Another thing I do is break up a couple of green beans, wrap them up in tissue like a little parcel, it took my girls a little while to work out the beans are in there but now they hold them in their mouths and chuck them around before ripping them open to get the treats :))

If you use treats use veggies, commercial treats are high in fat and sugar and I find my girls don't really like them anyway!

Often its trial and error to see what they do or dont like, all piggys have different tastes and so you just have to see what fits :) Hope that helps xx

My girls adore paper rolls and cardboard boxes....... one in particular loves to redecorate rolleyes so every cardboard box has her toofie nibbles all over the entrance :(|)

Sounds like you have two very very happy pigglies x)

don't you laugh yourself silly when they popcorn so hard that they turn around, stop and go.......hey what happened there? then popcorn again :(|):(|):(|)

Well, I went ahead and did the bedding change. I have puppy pads on the bottom. on top of that three layers of newspaper, and a thin old blankie on top of that, then two old worn out but no threads loose towel on top of the blankie. I then put a giant handful of hay on the end under thier ramp and loft thingy...and put thier hidey house with a old soft cloth diaper folded up underneath it. I hid bellpepper, apple, and cucumber in spots in the hay. i also filled two toliet paper tubes with hay and veggie goodies. I then ...put them in to see what they would do. OH MY....they went bezerk...running, squeaking, beeping, wheeking...popcorning, zoomies......needless to say. I think they approve. LOL.

I truly wonderd if smores hurt him self earlier. Instead of using the ramp..he took a flying popcorn leap off the loft. It not high..but still. he kinda sat there, shook his head like a dog..and then proceeded to do a zoomie. I laughed so hard...apparently even he went..what the ?

so,.,,thank you thank you thank you for all the ideas, and advice. I hope to give them a GOOD home, not a half butt exsistance in life.
now if I can jsut convince my daschund she doesnt NEED to EAT them..we'll be good. :(|)

I catch my two baby piggies flying in the air too! They back flip and spin around so much and then just sit there shellshocked! I always have a little giggle to myself :(|)

All my piggies love kitchen roll tubes which I snip at each end to open slightly (once had an unfortunate episode with a stuck head) and fill with hay.
They just love to nibble the cardboard :)

Yes sure- I can post the thread later. Sometimes I add cardboard shapes on as well as veggies. :) Glad to hear it helped :)

Hi-sorry haven't been able to upload any photos yet. I should have the thread and pigtures up soon.

Just wondering which type of kitchen towel you're talking about, the disposable ones on a roll or actual towels ( like tea towels ). If it's the disposable ones I'd advise against giving anymore to your piggies because they are very absorbent and may swell up once wet with saliva.
If you want to wrap something up maybe use brown paper bags ( I get kraft bags from suppliers on ebay) that are food safe ( I'd avoid bleached and printed bags). This is the sort of thing I'm talking about:

Hope that helps. :)

Not strictly a toy but I toss loads of fresh hay in their cage when they are in their hidey and they are totally delighted when they run out, chatting away as they make tunnels, jump over things, toss it in the air etc. They get really vocal!
