Hi all! I have a pair of piggies who are very shy and do not like being touch at all, making picking them up fairly hard for nail clippings or vet visits. While being shy, they have learned to do spins for treats and will follow my hand onto anything, alongside stepping onto my hand with their front feet only.
I'm thinking of possibly training them to hop into a hidey and be picked out - without the stress of cornering or touching them. Has anyone did this before? I will be giving it a go with an half open cuddle cup, though I will be taking it into small steps, like getting them into it over and over for a little bit, then introducing the motion of being raised just bit. I feel this might be the best route though I'd love some opinions!
I really think these lil piggies will be able to learn, they are the smartest out of my 4!

That's the only way I pick up my piggies.

They know they get floor time or cage cleaning if I put their snuggle sack in the cage and walk right in because they like those things.

I have a tub (a small gorilla style tub) which I use to get my two from their cages to their lawn runs in or just to pick them up from.
I just lay the tubs on their sides in the cages and the piggies just walk in, carefully turn the tub back the right way up and as they are high sided the piggies cannot jump out. Treat waiting inside for them.
I keep these tubs purely for this purpose and as soon as they see them, the piggies know what to do with it

I've been training my piggies to just get into my hand to get them out of the cage, and done it in the same style training as you so I don't see why it shouldn't work!

I've trained my piggies to walk into a snuggle sack. It took a year to train Misty and Bramble. But they got there. It took 6 weeks to train Saxon as he copied Misty and Bramble.
