I recently got two piggies and their previous owners fed them on muesli. However, they can be very selective and always leave the bits they don't like. For this reason I want to put them on to pellets to prevent selective feeding but not sure the best way to go about it. What are the best pellets? And where can I find them :)?

Thanks

Lots of differnt pellets out there. Over the space of a week to 10 days gradually reduce the amount of the old food and mix it with the new until you are only giving the new. They may well reject it for a while but don't worry. As long as they are still eating their hay and their veggies, they will be fine and they will give in eventually.

Depending on your budget, Asda own brand nuggets are supposed to be quite good. Burgess excel ones too (the ones with mint are best as they don't have molasses in them - best to try and avoid ones with those in or ones that are high in calcium).

The best of the best seems to be Bunny brand giunea pig food sold by ZooPlus in the UK but it is not the cheapest. Zoo plus also sell JR Farm grain free and Vitacraft emotion which are thought to be good ones. I've tried both of those two and the Burgess I mentioned. The JR farm one is probably the least favoured by our piggies.

Sorry meant to add VetUK sell the Burgess mint ones at a good price if you buy the 10kg bag (and I think the price is not to bad there for the smaller bags either but we've got 8 piggies in total so I tend to buy the big bags!). You can expect to get a 2kg bag of that online for about £3.70ish. Sometimes The Range has it on special offer too.

Thats great thanks! At least I have a starting point now and can explore and research the different brands! Might take a while for them to get used to as they are quite fussy it seems but I'm sure I'll find something, thanks!

@helen105281 has spent a good deal of time looking in detail at different nuggets if you have any questions - for example if your piggies are prone to fungal infections she could recommend a brand to help prevent that. She is a busy lady though as she is so knowledgeable so don't be surprised if she can't reply straight away.

Have fun researching!

Yes happy to help, am putting together a sticky but have been doing it for months, I'll get there in the end though. I feed the Bunny pellets as I have had previous issues with fungal in my herd and as they are grainless they are not heating like some other pellets.
