Hi, (I'm not so sure where to put this, if it's in the wrong place I am really sorry though I figured it has a lot to do with their health)...
We are probably going to be moving provinces across the country. I have no idea how to go about transporting my Casey, Tigz and Pie... The drive will take 2 days because we have to stop for 1 night on the way down. I was thinking I could take a collapsible pen and let them run around every time we stop, but what do I transport them in during the drive because their cage is way too big and even their pet store (much smaller) cage which I bought in the first place is too big to fit. Plus, my hammy also has to fit on the back seat. It's just my mom and I plus we still need space for the essentials & clothes we're bringing with us plus supplies for the piggies and hammy. I was thinking we could sneakily let them have free range if there's a suitable room (obviously we will check that the place we're staying won't mind the piggies and hamster) otherwise they can sleep in the pen...
Does anyone have any tips and things that I should know, I'm not really finding much on the internet and I really need help.
Thanks so much:)
xx

Hmm when we transported the boys we used their old rabbit 100 cage which fit quite snuggly in the back seats...all i can think of is if you have a small dog carrier/crate you could put your piggles in their, although I'd imagine you would need to put some sort of mesh over the top as the bars can be quite far apart on dog crates and you wouldn't want them escaping whilst your driving. :)

Or you could line a large cardboard box with vetbed/ or something to keep the box from becoming damp, and use that to transport them in :)

When you do travel with them put plenty of hay so they continue feeding throughout the drive and their pellets too, and if you can secure their water bottle with string around the crate/cage tightly so it doesn't fall out of place, if you can't feed them throughout the journey watery veggies such a cucumber which will keep them hydrated.

Using their pen is a great idea for the night, although i would put some of their hideys inside the pen so they have somewhere that feels safe in a strange surrounding.

Just make sure you have plenty of hay, water bottles filled, and watery veggies!

ooo and another some piggie find bumpy car journeys a little strange, it might be an good idea to cover half the crate/carrier/ box with a light weight towel so it isnt to scarey for them, so they can have a nose around if they want to or they have somewhere dark and secure to hide away in.

Hope the journey goes well x

Thank you so much:) greatly appreciated. I'm bringing all their hidey boxes and toys and things with us in the car so that they have familiar things with them when we arrive, too. It's stressful enough without changing all their surroundings and things... I don't think we have vetbed but I have seen things like "puppy pads" in pet stores and in my vet's reception. Do you think something like that will work or will the cardboard still get damp? I've been scrounging but I can't find any spare plastic crate-like things so a big box will have to do it...

No worries :) And i never thought of using a plastic box, that could also work. You could use an old towel, or blanket if you have any instead of vet bed and puppy pads work just as well :) It might be a good idea if you do go with a cardboard box to take a spare just in case, hope the moving goes well :))
