As some of you may know, I've been trying to find a local rescue/rehoming centre to adopt another little girl from. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like I'm going to find anywhere and the only other place I can really get to by public transport is London. It's about 40mins train ride though and Liverpool street station scares me somtimes, so I thought it might be too stressful for a piggy journey...

What do you guys think?

They would definitely be in a sturdy, reliable carrier, I'd probably use one of the cat's ones so I could take Jedward to meet the newbie and bring them home together if necessary and probably put and old T-shirt or something in the corner for them to burrow in, as I don't think the pigloo I have would fit and I only have one cosy cup with no roof.

The other worry I have though is that the big cage I want to get won't be in stock until the end of the month and I might not be able to come into London for very much longer . (Trying to get a more local job and can only afford to come in while I still have a travel pass for work here.) Should I wait until the new cage arrives and risk not being able to adopt/having to buy from a pet store if I am to get her a friend, or should I try and adopt while I can still get to a rescue and just keep them both in the small cage until the bigger one arrives? I just think it would be a bit cramped in there until I got the new one...

I think it is generally better to introduce piggies in a bigger cage/run as they'll have much better chances to get on well.
Can't give you advise on this, but if it was me, I'd wait to get their living environment set up first, then get the piggies. Perhaps someone could give another pig a lift later from London to where you live? :)

Possibly but if I did it that way, I wouldn't be able to take Jeddy to meet the other piggy before adopting and I couldn't be sure if they were going to get on or not, which really worries me.

Perhaps you are right, but there is a different side to it, too: if they get on ok on a neutral territory with plenty of space, it can be all spoilt when the new pig arrives and takes up some of Jeddy's private own place, they are very territorial. I'm not sure how likely that is if they are already getting on well when introduced first. Did anyone have a similar situation when pigs that got on well had to pass some time in a very tight space?
Then, what is the large cage you are getting? Most pet shops call something large, but it might be too small for 2 guinea pigs. Minimum hutch size RSPCA advise for a guinea pig is 100cm x 50cm and that gets bigger with each pig.

Quoting one of RSPCA branches: "The minimum cage size for two guinea pigs should be 120cm x 60cm x 45cm, however for the sake of your guinea pig's health and happiness, consider providing as large a cage for them as possible."

good luck with the piggies, hope everything goes well whatever you decide :)

Sorry going a little in different direction than what you were asking but are you close to Chelmsford?
