Hi everyone!
I am a college student that likes to go home on the weekends sometimes. It only takes me about an hour and a half to get home by car, and I was wondering if it is ok for guinea pigs to be traveling. I make sure there is plenty of hay, food, and water in the cage and I make sure there is no direct sunlight on the cage as well. He has been doing fine so far coming home with me on the weekends! I just want to make sure that he won't get sick or anything with the change in environment. Any advice is appreciated! :)

My Bill and Ted travelled 6.5 hours each way to see a specialist dental vet this year. They took it in their stride. We were far far more stressed than them! A large chunk of cucumber helps to keep piggies hydrated and regular stops to refresh food if you are on a long journey. Since then they came on holiday with us (1.5 hour journey) and seem really chilled out in the car, the movement seems to send them off to sleep!

I always worry about my girls traveling but they cope brilliantly. They normally just go to sleep in their box. Our vet is about a 45min drive with no traffic but can sometimes take up to and over an hour and the girls are always fine. I just try to keep the car as quiet as possible for them so unfortunately no blaring rock music or out of tune karaoke whilst I’ve got them in the car with me XD

It seems the only stressful thing about traveling with guinea pigs is guinea pig owners stressing about their guinea pigs :p

Kidding! But getting to our vet is a 45min train ride one way. The way there and back they were pretty relaxed, and even enjoyed smelling the air as we walked in the street with them in their carriers. They were far less phased by the whole thing than we were to be honest :)
