Hi everyone,

I'm a student and planning to spend the next academic year abroad in France as part of my degree course. Me and my partner are hoping to adopt some guinea pigs very soon, and I know that there are no EU regulations about taking small animals into other EU member states apart from there being a limit of 5 or something. I naively thought that it wouldn't be too difficult to take them overseas with us but have now found out the Eurostar don't allow any animals on board except guide dogs! :(

Is it possible to fly from England to France with guinea pigs? I can't find info on Airlines - does anyone know of anyone who has flown abroad taking their piggies with them?

I have never flown with animals...and never would I. I work in a vets so we routinely have people coming in for fit to fly certificates for dogs, and even cats, and they apparently cope quite well, but I would never put any animal of mine on a plane... I imagine it's absolutely terrifying for them!

Could you drive?

We have a sticky thread about what to look out for when flying with a guinea pig in our daily care section. You may find that not all airlines will allow small animals and that it can be very expensive.

Have you considered going by ferry? Two of my piggies have come that way from the Channel Islands. However, like flying, it will be a rather frightening experience for them' but it is quite obviously survivable!

You will also make sure that they are allowed in your accommodation.
