Hafina has been with us for only about one and half years, but I am sure that they have been the happiest time of her whole life!
She was dumped in a bare cardboard box in full sun on a hot day on a private person's doorstep. Hafina had a bad eye infection and was found to have permanently blocked tear ducts when the infection had been cleared. This rendered her virtually impossible to rehome, so she came to me in summer last year. Her Welsh name, Hafina, means "summer".
Hafina turned to be most gentle and sweet natured of my sows; and whoever met her in pigson, inevitably counted her amongst their favourite members of the Tribe afterwards. She may have been the bottom piggy of the Tribe, but everypig looked after her and her eyes all the time! Hafina was always very generous with her piggy cuddles and received many in return.
Of all things, Hafina adored her "crunchies" and was the prime wheeker at pellet time whenever I was late, even though her big wheek never amounted to more than a hoarse whisper.
When her eye trouble became too much for coping with the madcap days in the Tribe, she joined my Trio with Terfel and the two cataract sows Taffy and Tegyd, who kept on looking assiduously after her eyes.
I am still so gutted that Hafina died in that eye operation; the world feels that bit colder and darker now without Hafina there to warm all our hearts.
Here are some memories of her:
Telyn (RIP July) licking Hafina's eyes clean
With her best friend Nerys
Going potty over her crunchies!
Nomming away
Enjoying the fresh scents in the spring breeze
Snuggling up with Hywel during the cosy competition phot shoot
As part of the Upstairs Tribe over the last few weeks
Fare well, my sweetie - you are sorely missed!
