This is my first long haired piggy Ena and her fur is growing. Her mum is an abyssinian and her dad a coronet cross so I am unsure of how long her fur will grow. At the minute, she is just a fluff ball :)

Anyway, I am starting to think that I may have to trim her fur but have no idea what I am doing. As you can see by the pics, her fur grows outwards suppose to downwards.

Any advice, much appreciated :)

I was wondering the same. My Henry is long haired and I don't want him to look stupid because I did a bad job!

What do you use? I'm scared about using scissors in case I stab her or something :(

I just use scissors, I should do the back as it gets mucky but the rest I leave aone. Sit her with something tasty and she should stay still!

I find when I trim my older sheltie boar that if I use a pair of nail scissors or boots baby nail scissors he doesn't bother. It's when I use a pair that make a noise that he reacts.

I think if she were mine I would leave her coat to grow, and if it starts getting in her eyes, or she's getting a wet behind, then I would give her a trim, round those areas.

She's a really gorgeous little girl.

If I were you, I'd just trim her around the bottom of the bum where she gets pee stains until you can really see what she is growing into over the next few months. she may not end up a full longhair.

I use scissors and at first just cut as much as that piggy will allow, even if it takes me three gos at first. Eventually the piggies will get used to the procedure and you can give them a haircut in one go.

Make sure that you hold and gently put a little bit of pressure on Ena's claws and play around with her paws, so she gets used to being handled right from the start. It will make things a lot easier later on when she stops being a wiggly little baby!

With four guinea pigs, you have to start thinking about cutting the claws yourself. It is not all that difficult with a little bit of practice.

Would your OH hold her for you, Claire?

I used to have my mum trim Tuppy while I held her, made things quicker and easier. I trim my four shelties and coronet myself now, takes about 20 minutes or so per pig. :)
