sorry I have posted something similar on another thread but just read he trikes for posting!
Can I trim my piggies nails myself or do I neendtonginto the vet? Is there a recommended book or some images to support in this?
Thank you so much this forum is a life saver - was a bit worrries about the amount of poop produced but this forum is better than google!

Only be worried if the poops stop or go mushy :xd:
You can take them to the vet to trim or you can do it yourself. Best just taking a small amount off the end to keep them trim. If they have dark nails, shine a light at it to see where the quick is (the blood going through the nail tip. On a lighter ones you'll see it as its visible without the light.
There is clippers that you can buy which are easy to use. About £5.00 were the ones that I paid at Pets at Home.

Do you cut them straight across?!

Yep. If your piggies kick up too much of a fuss then leave it up to the vet to do

Check out the thread called Chore Day by user @Eilidh as there is a picture of a guinea pig getting a toe trim.

I only trim a small bit off each guinea's nails every few weeks. I prefer to use my nail clippers as they are easier for me than pet ones.

You can trim nails yourself, but if you are worried or struggle, most vet clinics will show you how to go about it or do it for you for a moderate fee. It is mostly a matter of practice, but not all piggies are equally cooperative - and it can be tricky to cut black nails. You only need to start nail trimming once baby nails start growing out, which can vary.
