Noticed this am that Trinny had a wee stain on her bum so i popped her in the bath to do a bum wash, and noticed what i think is an absess.8...

Having discussed it with Laura and Debbie i am going to keep an eye on it while Monday and then take her to the vets. She is acting completely normal and earlier on was racing round the run with her sisters and Murphy (neutered boar) like you would not believe so its definately not making her feel unwell.

We are mortified though as poor Trinny seems to get everything. She has had bloat then cataracts in both eyes now this. :(

I think the OH thinks I'm a bit silly posting pics of this on here, but i think it helps to hear about these things and how they are dealt with hope you all agree. I will update when we have been to the vets.

Love Lindsay and Trinny x

It may be a cyst and not an abscess - but certainly something that needs to be seen by a vet! Cysts can swell up quite quickly as well.

Best of luck for poor Trinnie!

Hi

It does look more like a cyst or even a none malignant tumour.

You diefinatly need to see a vet with her.

Regards

It's good to see a bigger pic Lindsay, sorry to hear it is poor Trinny with it though! Some pigs have everything going.

Still inclined to think cyst initially, hopefully the vet can stick a needle in on Monday to find out what's in it and then determine whether to lance it. Fingers crossed all goes well for her. xx

Aww poor little pig. Hope she gets better soon

We are back. Susannah came along for the ride to the Vets with Trinny and was not impressed at all she squealed so loud in the car.

The vet says its a cyst, but it had a crusty top to it this am so when she squeezed, it squirted a very horrible susbtance all over the poor vet, bless her.

She has cleaned it up sent us home with some hibbiscrup to clean the area twice a day, she gave Trinny a baytril jab to last her while she gets some Zithromax in tomorrow morning.

So we are planning on treating with cleaning and Zithromax. Then we will monitor to see if it comes back again, the Vet seems to think it will happen again. Then i will have to decide whether to let them operate to remove it or not. To be honest i trust my Vet so i think if it comes back then it will be best to have it removed, otherwise it will mean having it drained everytime it comes back and more antibiotics.

Trinny bless her little heart was the perfect little patient and barely flinched while she was having it drained.

Will keep updating to let you know how she gets on.

Thanks Glynis, Trinny is doing so well bless her. I seperated her off from the rest, I put up a divider so she could sleep on vet bed, and Murphy knawed at the divide so I put him in with her, he has been very close with her since the Cataracts.

Talk about it never rains but it pours though, I noticed tonight that Murphy has a rattling chest just how Joes was over a year ago!

Poor you, Lindsay!

Big vibes to poor Trinny; I hope that she doesn't need to be separated. At least your vet sound like a very good one!

And best of luck with Murphy as well!

I have one of the collapsable runs that fits nice inside the girls huge pen so she has been happily living in her normal space but with a little divider as i didnt want her getting any hay caught on her wound. She has Murphy living with her on the vet bed side, as he didnt like not being able to sleep in the same house as her.x) Poor little man has been great with Trinny and now she is snuggling up to him making him feel better. Hopefully once his antibiotics kick in he will be back to full health.

Just been on the phone to Becks, we were saying you go months and months all is ok, then everything happens at once. So lucky we have a fabulous vet.x)

Trinnys doing fabulous, but poor Murphys not well at all. Got up at 6.20 to check on him and he was very cold. So i took him into bed with us wrapped in a towel. He was not bothered about his breakfast so i have syringed water into him and mushed up pellets and syringed him that as well which he took pretty well.

When i left for work he was sat on his snuggle safe heat pad in his towel. Going back at 12 to check on him and feed him again. Fingers crossed for poor Murph please. His chest sounds alot better but he is not looking well at all. 8...

Poor Murphy!

All 160 fingers, toes and claws crossed for thim in this house!

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

I went home and fed him up again at dinner with the mushed pellets and syringed him some water, he is looking alot better and walking around more now. He is still going back to his snuggle safe so he must still be feeling a bit cold.

Susannah and Honeyb are now with Murphy and Trinny in the kitchen in a make shift housing arrangement and both Trinny and Murph seemed very happy to see them. I just got the feeling that they were missing their sisters as i took Murphy and Trinny into my bedroom last night to keep an eye on them.

Ken was doing the next feed as i am feeding him up every three hours. When i get home i will cut some grass to try and tempt him to eat for himself.

I'm concerned about the lack of Vit C so i squeezed some orange juice and syringed that. Does anyone recommend a good suplement for me to give him while i get him back eating again?

Trinnys doing well taking her anitibiotics and she is letting me clean her wound with the ointment from the Vet.

Gosh i feel like Nurse lindsay at the moment :)

You can dissolve part of a normal vitamin C tablet in a little bt of water and syringe that. Or syringe cranberry juice - that is full of vitamin C as well!

Good to hear that Murphy is feeling better!

Thanks Wiebke got home and fed him again, he has taken that well again but he is bunny hopping now instead of walking so def need to get the vit c in him. Going to try the Vit C tablet with him now.

Sorry I've missed the updates Lindsay, you're having an awful time of it today!

Trinny - I don't see anything to be doing different as yet, just stick with what the vet suggests for now, cleaning is good and antibiotics are worth a try.

Murphy - rattly chests are no fun, poor chap, how does his breathing sound at the moment? I find Sudafed Expectorant very useful for anything chesty like that, but it helps to find out whether any fluid is in the lungs or not. (Vet check)

Re the Vit C, I like Oxbow Daily C simply because I know the dose of Vit C I'm giving the pig. I currently have a Vit C powder called Linus, I just add a small pinch to one of the syringe-feeds just to bolster the Vit C levels for my poorly pigs.

His chest sounds alot better not rattling at all really now. He is very weak though he is having all his feeds though and i have just picked some grass of which he has just munched!

Problem is i have not seen a poo or a wee for a few hours. Any ideas why he wont be pooing. Going to get him back to the vet tomorrow.

Poor chap, he's in good hands though. If he didn't eat much yesterday, it may be overnight before you see poops again, it can take a day of regular syringe-feeds to see poops again - in my experience at least. How much are you getting into him at each feed?

Only about six syringes they are the small ones that take 1cc. He takes them really well then i think he gets tired as he puts his paw up as if to move the syringe away. How much would be ideal?

I am syringing him water and Cranberry juice for the Vit C as he is wobbly on his legs, i tested him earlier and he did move very fast from the lounge into the hall though!

I will try not to worry then about the lack of poops and see how he goes over night.

More would be better Linds and will help get the digestion moving more normally again - I can email you over the syringe-feeding factsheet if you wanted to have a read through it? PM me your email if you're interested, I'm heading offline very soon but will hang around for a few mins to see.

I get the waving paw all the time with some pigs, sometimes I take the hint but sometimes I have to be a bit stubborn with them. As long as they keep chewing what I'm putting in the mouth, then I keep going until I've given them a satisfactory amount. Usually an absolute minimum of 10ml; I'm happier at 15ml but the ideal is 20ml.

Best of luck! You are doing your very best with him!

They never fail to amaze me!

Moved Murphy back in the make shift hospital wing after his latest feed, that i have set up so i can keep an eye on him but he can also be with his girls as well.

His bed is the crisp box out of the cage (see pic below) and he was in there all snuggled up and warm looking very sleepy and wobbly then i look round and he is out the cosey and he jumped right in the cage and kicked Trinny out the pink pigloo. He can hardly walk then he did that to be with his girlsx) bless him.
