I have been keeping a close eye on Lily since her room mate Daisy died last week. She seems to be perking up but today I noticed a thinning bald patch on her back. Looks to me like mites, so vet booked for this afternoon and then a thorough clean of cage etc. Was just thinking I could start looking for a mate for her. It's funny my other two Guinea Pigs have had absolutely no problems in four years and now I seem to be getting a run of them.

Illness is like London buses - a long time nothing and then you get several in a row... :(

Best of luck for prompt treatment. As you are in the South, your vet may also consider a fungal issue (not ringworm). This is more prevalent in warm, humid weather. Both issues are opportunists that can hit whenever the immune system is lowered in the wake of a bereavement.

Thanks Wiebke, the Vet said most likely to be mites as I have also noticed her scratching a bit today.
