I noticed that Hattie, my biggest piggie, had a dry patch to her front paw after a return from staying at my sisters for a few days, and then last night I noticed her middle toe on her back right foot was swollen. Took her to the vets this evening and he couldn't tell if it was broken, and didn't want to stress her out before trying Bactryl and Metcam.

I have administered the first doses, not convinced there is enough in the bottles, cleaned with the iodine given and applied the ointment. It went well, she brought up some of the "food in her mouth" ( the vet was a bit rude about this when he tried to check her teeth.... should I have cleaned her mouth somehow before the visit?) But seemed eager to get back in the hutch and was straight on the hay.

She also pee'd twice on the table, which also went down well...

Happy she is hopefully on the med, but bit put off by the bedside manner.

Bless her, hope she feels much better soon. No need to clean her mouth out, the vet can do that themselves with a syringe full of water, no need for them to be funny with you about it. A happy healthy eating guinea pig will and should have food in their mouth.

Thank you for the advice, I didn't think I would have been expected to do that. I have changed their food recently, they are bigger pieces, so maybe they are a bit stickier...

When we've taken our piggies for a check up at our vets, she has always smiled and said 'ooh, they're saving that for later' when checking their back teeth :)) Obviously referring to the hay/food there which is perfectly natural - your vet would be crossed off my list ;)
