we woke up this morning to find three of out four boys dead. we are heartbroken to say the least and to make it worse we just cannot fathom how or why it happened.
what would kill three gp's in a night? their food wasnt changed they had hay, bedding shelter, they live in a large shed not outside, no chemicals or things that could poison near them? :(

Awww no thats horrid 8... 8... 8... 8... Bad enough to loose one. Do they have any injuries or had any been poorly? Is the other one traumatized? A big storm or a fox making noise outside could send them into shock, other than that I don't know, sorry. Poor you and lonely boy, at least you can comfort each other.

OMG that is so awful :(

What a shock for you, I hope the other piggy is ok he must be feeling so lonely :(

How awful for you, so sorry. The sort of things we consider when this happens are contaminated hay, mice, been on the grass where dog/cat been, chemicals on grass, plant poisoning, shock. I think poisoning is often the likliest. Think back for about 48 - 72 hours where they have been, eaten etc. Maybe others can offer more ideas. It must be devastating for you, and more so if you can't find the cause. xxxxx

hope your other piggie is ok.may be worth going the vets tomorrow to get that piggie checked out maybe they could tell you why the others died.

the other piggy seems fine, the other three were also fine the night before, plus the 2 girls are fine too? (only difference being they live in a different hutch, but same area, same food, same hay, same veg) the only difference i can think of is the temperature? (it was cold last night, maybe 6 degrees, but all piggies live in the shed?)

Is there any chance that a rat could have got to them and that they died from shock?

i think a rat could have easily gotten to the mesh of the hutch but not inside a hutch, would they get so frightened from seeing/hearing one that they'd die?

I have heard of piggies dying from shock before.

However it happened it's such a shocking and sad event. So sorry you had something like that happen to you and them.

Give the girls and lonely boy a kiss from me.

Rats can and do kill guinea pigs.

How is your remaining boy doing? Is he showing signs of shock or is he just pining?

I am so sorry about it all - it takes lots of time to get over something like that!
