Hi.
I'm new to this forum … Wondering if i can get some advice on my male guinea pig Bolt.
A few weeks ago we picked him up and noticed poo blocking his bottom,we gave him a bath and removed the chunk ! He has been fine since eating regularly , drinking and pooping etc. However we have been checking it everyday since and today we have noticed his willy is protruding and it seems as though there is poo around it. We are not sure whether to give him a bath and try soften it… HELP ?!

I'm really sorry but none of the info on that page helped at all… any advice you can offer :( :(:ple::soz:

How old is Bolt? Impaction can be a regular problem in older males.

I would definitely clean him gently with warm water to soften any poo.

I am not to sure we got him from a rescue centre... I have had him for around 3 years now though so probably a little older than that :(

How much is he moving around and how often do you clean out his sleeping corner and cage?

A piggy that is sitting in their excrement can get poos stuck to their genitalia without diarrhea, espiecally when he pees on his poos, so they become soft and sticky. If he has an erection, then he can get a poo stuck on his willy; please remove it gently, if necessary with a little bit of hand warm water or some olive oil. You remove any poos stuck on his bum and feet with a bum bath, so they are softer and easier to get off without pulling hairs.

Please have your boy checked by a vet for his breathing tomorrow. Untreated URIs (Upper respiratory tract infections) can kill. We have got a recommended vet locator on the top bar.

Thank you my guinea gets a full clean out every 2 days and he goes outside when the weather is suitable… I will give him a bum bath tomorrow as its too late to do it now.I will book an appointment with the vets ASAP! Will the poo around his privates cause him any pain overnight ?
