Hi all
I am fostering a male piggie, hes about 2 yrs old he was neutered about 3 weeks ago i noticed yesterday he was bulgeing around his bits so i squoze it and got a lot of smelly poo out today it had started to gather again i was wondering if he has impact anus if so what do you do, i dont mind emptying it for him but will anyone else and i know its the poo they are supposed to eat that gets stuck so will he need extra vitamins and minerals and does he need to see a vet thanx x

Hello, from what you've described it sounds like impaction from the things I've read but I've not experienced it myself. (or should I say my piggies haven't!)
There's information about it here http://www.guinealynx.info/impaction.html
it does contain quite graphic images! :red
I think a trip to the vets to confirm the diagnoses would be advisable before you dive in again if you know what I mean. Although if it is he will need seeing straight away so he can be relieved, don't want to leave the poor boy bunged up.
Hope he's alright.

You will find a lot of the information you are asking about on this link:

If you are worried about a risk of infection, I would see the vet to make sure that everything else is OK and that it is impaction.

Sorry - we posted at the same time!

Hi Emma, I agree that it sounds very much like impaction. Not a health problem per se as long as you keep up with it. Just check daily and you'll soon learn how often he'll needs "clearing out"; some pigs need clearing twice a day, others as little as once a week - it varies between pigs, but the common theme is to check at least once a day.
