Truffle Still Not Eating Or Pooping

Yes I've cut the tip off the syringe I've made it up as instructed but it seems quite thick. Yes wiebke she's git her sister fudge so I'm prepared to go poop hunting hubby turned his nose up but then he is eating his dinner lol.

The sryinge feeding is still on going not much interest in food still an odd little few strands of hay in herself she's quite alert she came running out from her house tonite for food but when she got to it she sniffed it took a tiny piece then went back again. There's an odd one or two poops now and again.
I made up some poop soup but think it was a little watery I gave her 0.5ml but not sure how much more to give her?

Truffle seems a bit brighter still a constant daily struggle to tempt her with any veg. Last night she ate 2small pieces of lettuce but today she's so far ate 1 stalk of coriander. She's shows a very small amount of interest in nibbling strands of hay. I've increased the syringe feed (mashed up pellets) to 10ml approx every 4hrs from today & hope to get 50-60ml in her. Does anyone know how long it might take to get her interested in food. Been syringe feeding since tues night. Oh she likes nibbling on the bark of her house still.

Please have her seen and thoroughly checked (including a scan or x-ray) by a piggy savvy vet to get to the bottom of what ails her. So far, I still have the feeling that you and your treating vets are only addressing symptoms and side effects, but that you are not yet treating the real cause. :(

Until then, you will have to continue to hand feed her and if necessary, give her painkillers.

PS: I have merged your threads, so we can keep the whole case together. It helps us with fine-tuning any advice on the basis of has gone on before. Our medical experts are monitoring not just new threads, but also new posts in this section. ;)

Sorry for not getting back sooner but Saturday night I gave truffle one last dose of meds and thought I would see how she went all yesterday was very unhappy looking still didn't eat so I continued syringe feeding, got the pet carrier out ready, with newspaper & fresh hay all set to ring the vets this morning but by 9pm last night she was wheeking for food coming out having some greens, hay, tomato it was like a different piggy. This morning she was out for fresh hay again had some veg for breakfast my mum popped round to check on them and she had grass & dandelions and spent ages munching on hay. As I type this she is munching away on hay. I have no idea if the medicine was making her worse but for now it's like she's back to normal. Obviously I will keep a very close eye on her and keep her weighed and she will be off for an xray if anything changes. Thanks everyone for your help especially wiebke your advice has been amazing x

Baytril has got an appetite dampening/killing effect on many guinea pigs; it is the one our of all the antibiotics that can be safely used on guinea pigs that has this effect most frequently. All antibiotics work not only on the bacteria they are used against, but they also kill the "good" bacteria that are necessary for a smooth digestion. Baytril is however also still the only officially licensed antibiotic for piggies.

It is great that she is so much better in herself! Continue to monitor her weight, but I would now switch to twice weekly and later if she is stable and well to the usual weekly weigh-in that we recommend for all healthy guinea pigs.

You must be soooo relieved!

I am very very relieved. she's now stretched out in her hay tray which I haven't seen for over a week! I did have a few tears over the week maybe it was being tired and hating having to feed her but knew I had too just to keep her alive! Thanks again x

Well done on you for not giving up and getting Truffle through her ordeal! It is very exhausting, physically as well as emotionally, but so worth it when you come out on the other end with a piggy that is healthy and still with you! ;)

Truffle still very alert wheeking for food and is out from hiding a lot more. No two days are the same with what fresh veg she fancies. For instance yesterday she wanted cucumber, coriander, parsley, babycorn today we don't want these but loving lettuce and some grass. She's still eating fresh hay but I was just wondering if this is quite normal? I've been backwards and forwards to my fridge no end the last couple of days lol x
