I'm a new owner and have been trying out different types of bedding etc for my boys.

They hated the safe bedding I tried and wouldn't go in their house, so that is out!

I am now trying fleece and we have a run set out for them in the living room with fleece and they seemed happy enough, running around, eating and jumping and exploring.
But I put fleece into their cage yesterday and they haven't yet come out of their house (which has hay on newspaper) and I noticed last night they were both scratching a lot as soon we put them back in the cage.

Should I leave them for another day (I clean them out every 2-3 days) to see if they get used to it or should I go back to woodshavings?

Scratching needs to be checked,as it could be mites (unrelated to the bedding; could come from hay).

Give your piggies time to get used to their changed territory. Try to lure them out with food.

PS: Have you prewashed the fleece at least twice without softener so it wicks away the fluids?

I had prewashed the fleece without softener but only once.

Would I be able to see mites if I look closely?

good luck with the investigations, I'm looking to change to fleece as at the moment I have sawdust on the bottom of the cage and then hay and paper flakes in the houses for them. I'm thinking fleece will be cheaper in the long run and safer as I know sawdust can make them sneeze and irritate them
