Hi all,

I'm feeling a bit sad...... only because I was so sure that once I rang around all the local rescue centres that at least one of them would have the perfect fur babies for us.

But so far, nothing.

My daughter Charlotte has done so much research and even made her own GP Care Folder, and we have set up a 5 x 2 C&C cage in her room with fleece and bowls and everything and now we just have to wait. That's the hard bit! It reminds me of waiting to go into labour all those years ago!

I think we should have a (obviously bonded) pair of confident piggies who are used to being handled, just to give us the best possible start - rather than skittish babies who I recall from my own childhood experiences can be hard to catch and overall a bit demoralising.

I know I am being impatient, but please tell me that our little guys are out there, I so want to provide a happy home for two who really need it.

Amanda

:( Sorry to hear this. I understand it taking the wind out of your sails so to speak...

You have all the kit, that is a good thing :) So a perfect home waiting for them it sounds. They will turn up... You have built it, they will come :))

Can I ask your location? We may be able to suggest some rescues....

Hi Amanda, I know how frustrating it can be. Last winter I lost my two elderlies and then one got very sick and despite many vets visits didn't survive so I was left with one sow on her own. I was going round rescues trying to find a neutered boar or a single sow or even a neutered boar and sow pairing to go with her but it took around 6 weeks before I caved and went to a non forum rescue. I'm lucky in that I feel experienced enough to make a judgment call on whether I agree with how they run a rescue and whether I am happy to rehome from there otherwise it would have taken much longer. I even kept an eye out on two local pets at home adoption centres but all they had were intact boars.

If you are happy to share your rough location and roughly how far you are willing to travel (if you are able to drive) or whether you are limited by public transport routes then maybe we can try and help in your search.

I got my piggies in a town that was TWO hours away.
It's all relative on how far you want to drive.

Ive noticed pets at home adoption always have boars, never sows. I have only ever see dot and i snapped her up

I should imagine a large number are returned after pairs of 6 week olds being sold with a 100cm cage and subsequently falling out. Two of my girls have come from pah adoption centres but I don't go often so I don't look lol

makes perfect sense. See my problem is i have to walk past the adoption bit to get to the guinea pig stuff. Both of my pigs had uri's as pups and got the vets for pets treatment then put in quarentine ( adoption part basicly) they were seen as old stock because of this. Their litter was gone by the time they were well enough to be homed

My next pigs i will re home off of this forum because i dont want to support breeders any longer in any way

Our local pets at home adoption have a pair of sows, initially I thought it was just one so I was tempted when I thought she was lonely but it turned out she was bonded with a much less pretty friend (a monster chops part cuy looking lady a bit like our Clover) who they only mention if you ask- so I thought if they are a pair they can probably be rehomed ok because I dont have space for 2 more!

Sometimes the ugliest pigs have the most personality

Um sorry, but is there such a thing as an ugly Guinea pig?
I'm even struggling with 'less pretty' guineas on this too?

Now.... Monster chops - that's not even debatable, some really are lol! I've owned some BIG girls
They all have different personalities & if we give them the opportunity as owners, their personality will shine through :luv:
