A guinea pig is not a teddy!

DSC00738.jpg

A guinea pig is not a teddy, when you get bored of it you can't just put her back in the toybox and forget about her until you want to play with her again.

Your children can't be held responsible for her, she will be like another child - fresh foods, nuggets, hay, clean water, clean bedding, baths, and lots and lots of LOVE and when she is poorly you will need to take her to the vets, there is no NHS for piggies, and that is no excuse for not taking her!

A guinea pig can live for up to 9 years that is a long term commitment, longer than a lot of relationships! She will be with you through thick and thin can you stick with her?

Guinea pigs like their own species to be friends, they love to chat and play. Rabbits are not good friends for guinea pigs- they like different foods and rabbits can give them bugs and bully them.

Guinea pigs get handed into rescues too! Can you give a needy guinea pig a home.....

Hope you like them!:(|)

I like it, gets the message across well I think.

But I love the pics x)x)x)

Aahh they look adorable- i think it's a great idea! Looks good to me but then again i don't even own any guineas yet so can't say anything from experiance! :)

You certainly make the point, and those pictures are simply gorgeous! x)x)

Good idea, must admit I have a wide range of leaflets available but I didn't do one that highlights the reasons an adult should be the primary carer. Mentioned it, of course, but not as eloquently as you!

Only thing I would change slightly is...

A guinea pig can live for up to 9 years that is a long term commitment

I would put 10 years, or even try "decade". Double figures or a big word like decade may have a bit more impact and get your message across that guinea pigs are around for more than just a couple of years!

Good point!:(|)

The plan is to get parents to double think when faced with a begging child, I realised that there were a lot of leaflets out there just trying to find a new angle.

Might mention your child may have grown up and moved out and the guinea pig will still be living at home?

Would like to add would never use a children's toy to carry my pigs in it was bought merely to be a prop from a charity shop! They have a nice new carrier but would not have been the same image....

Well worded. The photos are fab. Cottonbud makes my heart melt, so like my Farquhar. Jive is looking very handsome..

Well said, it puts the points across.
I love Jive's tongue picture that is soooo cute x)x) xxxxxx

i love all your pics but Jive... x)x)x) ....

the pictures are gorgeous! some very useful advice too there are too many parents who think owning a gp is as easy as owning a hamster

Thanks for all the kind words, photography is not a strong point for me.... you should see all the blurred, ones of my fingers etc etc that went in the bin!

Hi there!

just spotted your thread and agree that we certainly need some better leaflets out there than the ones you find in the pet shops!
People don't realise what goes into caring for a piggy - thinking they are like gerbils or hamsters etc.
Just a thought, but how about making comparisons to the other animals? i.e. with the comment on how long they live. You could show that if parents want to get their kid a pet, then the guinea pigs are like the children in our world and that maybe by starting off smaller, they can see whether or not a child can be responsible for something that needs just as much care as a dog or a cat! (if not more).

Liked the piccy's but initially didnt realise it was a kid's carrier. What about making a point using different shots i.e. Piggie's aren't dolls (with guinea in a pram or next to a toy pram), the teddy one (so cute!), Piggies do cry when left alone (show toys locked away in a cupboard or all forgotton about with a piggy next to them) etc etc. Bit like the old 'A Dog is for life, not just for Xmas' theme.
It's a bit more work, but visuals can help as noone likes to see an animal look obviously unhappy.

Great idea!

p.s. the tongue sticky out pic is adorable! what a picture! ha ha

I like it! It gets the message across well for me, it's simple and to the point.

Pics are gorgeous drool

I like Tani's idea of different pics too, but I guess it depends on what 'props' you have to hand :))
