Hi, so a family member gave the piggies a treat while getting them out while I was at work this afternoon. They’ve been given (and have eaten!) half a tomato each! So a whole tomato between them.
Besides soggy chins, they seem fine. They do both now have rumbly tummies, I can hear it while they’re sat on my lap. Isn’t too bad, have only heard one rumble from each piggy.
I’m worried about bloat? Not sure if it can be caused by eating too much, and not sure if they’ll become constipated as even though they ate a lot it’s quite a watery veg isn’t it.
Just wondering what to look out for in particular? Will be keeping a very close eye on them, and not letting anyone else feed them from now on 🤦🏻‍♀️

Just sounds like they are a little bit gassy I wouldn’t think this would cause bloat, just keep a close eye on them. One of our girls has a rumbly tummy and you can hear it across the room it is so loud.

Try not to worry just keep an eye

Hi!

Guinea pigs don't get constipated. Strainging, crying when pooing or peeing is generally a symptom of a bladder or urinary tract problem.

The tomato will hopefully not cause any worse symptoms than you are epxeriencing now and is unlikely to cause bloat, but here is our information on bloat: Bloat, GI Stasis (No Gut Movement) And Not Eating

If the poos are very soft in the next day or so from all the tomato, take your boys off any fresh veg tomorrow until the poos have firmed up for 24 hours and the guts have rebalanced. New food that the gut is not used to can cause a stronger reaction.

Thank you so much! Will monitor them over the next few days and see how they are. Hopefully they’ll be just fine! ☺️
