Hi All,

Ok repeat syndrome here, sick of hearing my own voice now. I was reading the thread on constipation and thought maybe you could advise me!

Quick sum up - my boys recently neutered - last Wednesday. Appetite reduced, stopped giving the baytril on Saturday.

All the problems, I believe are stress related from that op. I was concerned they weren't eating and they were squabbling and it seemed to be getting intense. Last night they were seperated permanently but in side by side c&c grids.

Floyd - is coming on leaps and bounds, he's grazing constantly, eating his pellets and munched all his veg tonight. He seems much more like his old self since having some peace from Manny's bullying.

Manny not so good.....I noticed the sound of a little squeal, went over to check and his poop is not normal. I can't say it's diarhoea (no idea how to spell) or constipation. It's soft and squidgy, i.e. stuck to the fleece. It's a sticky, sort of tacky texture (it's kinda like human poop!) not sure how else to describe! I wiped his bottom and a little came away on the tissue - that type of poop! There's been no normal poops this evening.

I called the vets but it was 9pm and emergency hours, they said to give probiotics.

I added 200ml to water and syringed 7.5ml. A couple of hours later I gave him just a tiny piece of Romaine (laced in probiotics) which he ate, and the rest of his water bottle is made up of the 200ml probiotic solution.

He's nibbled on some pellets and a bit of hay and has drunk a little of his water. Obviously, if I don't see normal poops tomorrow he will be straight down the vet. He's not eaten much though.

But is this type of soft poop diarhoea? Would he need a gut stimulant?

He's not made any little noises whilst passing a poop for about an hour now, so I'm hoping the probiotics are working.

Any advice? I have metacam from the weekend I could give now. Should I be syringe feeding? What should I be discussing with the vet?

Thanks
x

Hi I tend to use a probiotic like Fibreplex rather than one in the water so you can be sure they've taken all of it. If you're lucky the piggy will like the taste of it and lick it off your finger or try and eat your finger if it's Gerry!
It's good that he's still eating, even if it's only a little. I would be inclined to keep encouraging him to eat for himself, you could try mushing up some pellets in hot water then letting it cool. I've found they like it warm, something different to get them interested in it. Failing that I think you're right and a check up tomorrow would be a good idea.
Hope he feels better and normal poops happen soon!

Kate

I dip the syringe with the probiotic water in it, into the middle section of a cucumber, before offering it to my boys. This has resulting in one piggy eagerly going for the syring if i just hold it out and offer it, the other is also happy to take it if i pop him on my lap and lift him so his front paws on my arm (god knows why *shrugs*) Just a thought if he doesnt seem to like it,

I cant help RE medical advice though sorry.
