Hi,

Just had a call from the vets to say Bruce has a tumour :(

I was in too much of a daze to really ask anything.

Just after some advice if anyone has any.

They've said he needs further tests to see how aggressive it is and if it's spread. The tumor is in his cheek so they think it will be quite difficult to operate on..

He recently had an operation on his teeth (result of him headbutting a table leg!) and he needs a second in a few months.

The vet has said it's up to me, whether to test him now or when he has his second op - I sort of just want to know so he can get help sooner.

What do you think? x

I am very sorry about the bad result; it's not something that any loving owner ever wants to hear and it tends to come as a shock!

A lot depends on how aggressive/malign it is and how quickly it is growing. Your vet obviously thinks that it is a pretty slow one if he thinks that Bruce can wait a few months. Personally, I would like to know sooner, too!

I am sorry, absolutely devastating news :( I would get it tested sooner, then you can plan on how to make him comfortable and pain free.

Agreed I would want to know now so I could make him feel more comfortable. Poor Bruce fingers crossed for him.

Thanks everyone. I think I agree - we need to know sooner rather than waiting until he's in any pain.

Poor Bruce everything always seems to happen to him :(

Does anyone have any experience of a piglet being on medication/monitored with a tumor? The vet doesn't feel it will be able to be removed so making sure he is okay is our only option..

x

is it definitely a confirmed tumour & not an abcess from his tooth operation?
One of my previous piggy girls had a tumour & she ate like a horse but didnt put weight on, has yours gone off his food? If he's not eating as well, it might be worth double checking its not an abcess, as its uncomfortable for them to eat if in pain.
hope you get a good result.

Healing vibes from the girls & I . xx
