My 6 year old sow has a tumour in her lower tummy area thats spread almost in between her legs. We have been told by the vets theres nothing we can do but wait untill it becomes to big she cant have a normal life, then its time to say goodbye 8...

Everyday Ive been having her out to check how she walks (waddles), watching how much she eats etc etc, everything's normal (except the horrible huge lump) except i was watching her today and the lumps so big, she cant *bend down* and eat her own poop. I know this is vital in guinea pig digestion, so *ive been hand feeding her it!* but I'm not always here..

any advice on weather if she doesn't eat this its going to be screw her up?

Sorry to hear about your girl. It's very hard when you have to face up to losing a piggie, we had to have our first girl pts and knew that it would be the case over a month, it is a very tough decision to make, but you will know when it is time to do so.

As regards the Poo issue perhaps you could syringe her some 'poo soup' You can mash up a poo with some water and syringe it to her, it will contain all the good nutrients of the poo and beleive it or not they love it. It can be used as a probiotic when they are poorly by using the poo of a healthy piggie.

Thats a REALLY good idea! thank you! I dont mind doing it at all! thank you so much!!x>>

I am very sorry; I lost my previous patriarch to an abdominal tumor at the beginning of last year.

The best thing you can do is feed her "poo soup" from her healthy friends for all the good stuff.
I would also recommend syringing her extra vitamin C (dissolve 1/8 - 1/4 of a normal tablet in 1-2ml of water).

No probelm, sorry you are going through such a hard time. Amanda posted a very useful thread and I know while it's not something to think about at the moment it may help when the time comes http://www.theguineapigforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=89716

What's your girls name? Poo soup is fine the only problem is their brown lips afterwards :))

Wiebke, where do suggest getting dissolvable Vit C tablets from? I can never find them...

thanks all, i need to nip out to a appointment with stupid student fiance, willl check and reply bck as soon as I'm home! thanks again!

You can use normal supermarket ones (they are usually by the supplements and medication) or if you wish google Oxbow vitamin C tablets online.

Tescos chewable Vit C tablets WITHOUT zinc.

You can get 200mg up to 500mg.

Get the 200mg ones, grind up 1/6 - 1/4 tablet to a ifne powder (between two spoons) and mix with 1ml of water and syringe feed.

Other supermarkets may offer a similar own-branded tablet. You want to ensure they are without zinc or other supplements and that piggie gets min 30mg in a dose.
