Hi I am new here I am looking to get two guinea pigs but feeling down hearted as I have just been turned down by the only rescue I can get to :( they recommend a 4ft cage with an attached 4th run well I have a 6ft hutch in a shed and a 5ft run but because it's in the garden and not attached to the cage Its not suitable Has this ever happend to anyone on here
 
You need 50 posts in order to PM other members.
You don't always need to live near to a rescue to adopt from them, a lot on here rehome nationally and sometimes arrange "piggy trains" to transport them to their new homes, after asking someone closer to do the home check.
 
Oh thats good I would love to travel but with a toddler I can only do short bus journeys or taxis which can be expensive can anybody recommend a rescue for me thankyou

The nearest rescue to us in Merseyside, now is in Stoke.
 
Perhaps you can contact Helen at The Potteries rescue in Stoke-on-Trent? Sadly, most of the guinea pig rescues in the Manchester/Liverpool area seem to have closed down over the last year.

Those conditions seem a bit extreme! I don't see the problem in having a separate run. As long as you can supervise them and provide them with somewhere to hide (eg. pigloo or tunnel of some sort) it should be okay, right? It's good that the rescue cares about where their pigs go, but really, I can't see why she was denied for that reason...

It almost seems backwards to me - a run attached to a hutch is gonna be difficult to move around, where as a seperate run can be easily moved around so your pigs aren't sitting in their own poo (unless they expect you to hoover your lawn? rolleyes) and destroying the grass and being left with mud
 
i no i couldnt belive it i had to get her to repeat what she had said :S they are very busy at the moment as i suspect all rescues are i thought they would be happy somebody wanted to help my huch and run are bigger than they reccomend my dad said he will take pictures and show them exactly were they will be living hopefully that will change there mind i dont like the people who work there but dont want to punish the animals for there attitude

Thats a ridiculous reason not to rehome to a perfectly good home. My new piggies run is separate from the hutch, and I dont see anything wrong with that. They have an igloo in the hutch and a tunnel so can hide so they feel safe, and it has a cover over the top which is half sun protection and the other half netting so they are safe from opportunist predators. They are also closely supervised. I dont see what difference it makes being attached to the hutch or not, as long as they have safe areas they can be under cover and feel safe? x
 
we The Potteries Guinea Pig Rescue would be happy to rehome 3 guinea pigs into a 5ft hutch.

we have some guineas in needing homes and more due this week, we are in stoke on trent cheshire side x

Uhm, that excuse seems a bit extreme. As someone said, people with transport may be able to offer a piggy train to your home if you find a rescue that's a bit of a distance. We personally are always happy to help with travelling if need be, have travel pens etc. so keep us updated with your search and good luck :)p
 
I'm on Wirral and would be happy to help with last leg of piggy train as long as not too far from Chester (preferred).
 
Seems a bit of an odd excuse. My pigglies run is c&c grids joined together in seperate sections to keep Tam and bumble away from the girlies. Its so much easier to have a seperate run I think. Saves on mowing the lawn thats for sure.lol
My new hutch that hubbie is building is 4 n a bit foot by nearly 3 foot wide. Its huuuuuuge. With two seperate dwellings each one for one pig.lol. My girlies will be in the double 2 storey hutch. I cant wait till its finished. I hope you get what you want.
 
Is that Freshfields rescue in Formby? I have adopted from them and have an indoor cage which is about 4 ft by 6 ft.

Do you think it would be worth paying them a visit as sometimes things can get a bit confused when you are explaining things over the phone?
 
Hi yes it Is freshfield I have adopted rats from there a few times I also used to volunteer there but all the staff have changed now there just not friendly at all my aunties bf has said he can drive me up to an hour away which I am happy about I hate not being able to drive :( Thankyou for the links I will have a look :)

. Hi I don't think they did get confused they explained twice I am going to show them pictures of my setup see if that help
